On Thursday, a coalition of SC-based organizations, ColorofChange, and the Alliance for Educational Justice will deliver over 150,000 petition signatures to the local prosecutor, Solicitor Dan Johnson, calling on him to #DroptheCharges against Shakara and Niya and charge Officer Fields. There are 3 goals for the event:
1) To re-elevate the story and raise awareness of the ongoing suffering of these two girls.
2) To put pressure on Solicitor Dan Johnson to do the right thing.
3) To bring attention to the national problem of police in schools.
For the third goal, especially, we would like to create as much buzz on Social Media as possible. In addition to #AssaultatSpringValley, we are using the hashtag #DroptheCharges to demand not only charges be dropped on the Spring Valley Students but that we end school-based arrests. We are asking you and/or your organization to join in on social media. You can echo the demands of the action, focus on the national issue and share stories or data from your own communities. I've shared some sample posts and an image for those that need them. You can also watch the ColorofChange accounts for sharable content.
