The Money $how

At Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, 10 April-10 August 2021. The Exhibition takes guests on a tour of late-stage capitalism. Each artist in the exhibition uses collage to unpack ideas about money and its influence on our culture. Artworks speak about Black wealth, immigrant remittances, and how mid-20th century advertising informs present-day attitudes. Artists collage dollar bills into flowers and mine material remnants to tell stories about home economics. MORE

WORLD COLLAGE DAY EVERETT, WASHINGTON, USA

Postcards from the Edge

The Northwest Collage Society in conjunction with the Everett Public Library will be celebrating World Collage Day by hosting a live and interactive online workshop where John Arbuckle will lead participants in creating their own collage postcards using recycled materials. A limited number of free supply kits will be available for pickup from the Everett Public Library. Sign-ups for kits will begin in April and are open to adults and children alike. MORE

Propensity for Sentimentality

Tucson, Arizona, USA. Laura Tanner examines the consequences of American colonialism and addresses the sense of white, patriarchal fragility that continues to pervade Western culture. Hand-cut lace patterns and images layer and fold over specific vignettes, concealing the drawing underneath in order to reveal alternative narratives. By borrowing directly from the decorative arts, the meticulously hand-cut Mylar and equally intricate drawing capitalizes on America’s propensity for sentimentality. MORE

Other-worldly Concerns

Lewes, Delaware, USA. A focus on other-worldly concerns developed as a synergy from Felicia Belair-Rigdon's early childhood experiences: The Church, the theater, and the drama of the auction house. Bringing together disparate imagery of art historical references: angels, skydivers, bones, or twigs, for instance. The surface is worked over with diverse materials including gouache, oil pastels, and bole unifying and developing a painterly approach to paper. MORE

COLLAGE ON VIEW

Constellation

At LHQ Gallery in Cork, Ireland through 31 December 2021. "Constellation” features collagist Carol Reid White and miniature painter Amna Walayat. Through their work, the Cork-based artists explore and interrogate history and its related iconography, allegories and metaphors through fragmentation and re-contextualising. The artists then create new constellations through painting and collage. These images, layered with historical connotation in eastern and western subjects, articulate new meanings and generate a fresh dialogue with its viewer to recall their own personal experiences and knowledge of history. The artworks create a visual tension between naïve images which are loaded with critical, ironic, social and political commentaries on history. MORE

Kadour will offer a brief presentation, after which he will take questions about the magazine, upcoming events, and various initiatives and projects. Radical Reimaginings Exhibition Virtual Opening & Book Launch

Saturday, August 22, 2020 | 8PM-EST / 5PM-PST

516 ARTS, in partnership with Kolaj Institute, invited selected artists from New Mexico and around the world to reflect on our shifting world using collage, a medium that has been historically used by artists to directly engage with the visual narratives of their time. The exhibition and book features forty artists from nine countries and multiple Indigenous peoples—Salish-Kootenai/Métis-Cree/Sho-Ban, Tlingit/Nisga’a, Oglala/Lakota, and Seneca Nation—who offer a variety of perspectives. The voices of Black, Latinx, Native, and white Americans mingle with those from Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Canada, France, and Germany.
