MMFF 2019: Entries Announced

 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) known to be the annual film festival held in Metro Manila, Philippines which runs from December 25 (Christmas) through New Year's Day and into first weekend of January in the following year, focuses on Filipino films.The 8 films in competition wereMiracle in Cell #7, Mission Unstapabol, Sunod, The Mall, The Merrier, Mindanao, Write About Love, 3pol TrobolHuliKaBalbon and Culion.The annual Parade of Stars is scheduled on December 22, and will be hosted by the city of Taguig.

Simbang Gabi is a tradition for Celebrating Christmas in the Philippines. In the days leading up to Christmas, it’s a series of nine dawn masses. Which begin on December 16 and ends on December 24 when mass is held at midnight. The celebration is also seen as a way of asking the Lord for blessing, as most people believe that if you complete the entire nine-day series of dawn masses your wish will be granted.

CHRISTMAS EVE IN THE PHILIPPINES

Noche Buena is a Spanish word referring to the night if Christmas Eve and that means “night of goodness” which we celebrate on December 24, every year;  it is commemorating the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The Noche Buena actually came into being because the Spanish friars required Filipino churchgoers to fast until Christmas morning back in the 16th century. Since the natives were usually very hungry after coming back from the Christmas midnight Mass (and since any hour after midnight was technically considered to be part of the next day’s morning), they conjured up the nocturnal feast before going back to bed. The traditional preparing for this occasion was all of the family members are going home just to celebrate the Noche Buena, even those who are working abroad. This occasion makes the bond of every family that longing for each other love. The said occasion is steeped in cultural and religious significance. The country was a Spanish colony for more than three hundred years and so the Catholic traditions and legacy runs deep. For Filipinos, Noche Buena is the night, and the feast, before Christmas Day. More specifically, it is the meal eaten after hearing the midnight mass to welcome Christmas Day.
