I can get very tensed up if I struggle with a form. Yes even after 42 years in clay, I have to work out new forms, and the porcelain diva can be very stubborn.
What I find helps for me, is to measure with my hands; width, and height and then use a rib to push walls in or out.
I like to make permanent ribs and make them from plexiglass. My mud tool ribs are also always with me and then, plastic gift cards make wonderful tools. Cut them with scissors and file them with nail files.
In the end, a set of mugs is perfect imperfection. Each mug has it's own characteristics and I found in the past that I get to know which one is my favorite. It is always the one that fits perfect to my lips, nestle nicely in my hands and has a handle that cradles perfectly around my finger.
