Some lunar stuff I threw and detailed today!

matching hare bowls for the bf @rancidslime and yours truly!

id: A grey stoneware bowl with the inside illustration featuring a seafoam colored wide-eyed hare encompassing a litter of newborns curled around her stomach on a white background, with plants framing them. The outside of the bowl is glazed with a patina green, fading off to rust with drips of the glaze running off towards the foot.

i struggle a lot with ceramics because i have very poor hand strength and have a heavy disdain for the sensation of having stuff dried on my hands, but i think these turned out well!

i call them my "yogurt bowl" and "jupiter cup" because the dish looks like the perfect size you could put a little snack of yogurt in....and the cup looks like jupiter to me :) i was experimenting with how to get the stripes without too much bleed on the glaze, adding thin bands of wax around each colour seemed to do the trick

anyway, please enjoy my first ever ceramics off the wheel, made and glazed by me 🧡

I went through a phase during my second wheel-throwing class where all I wanted to do was sculpt tiny animals and use them as jar knobs. I'm actually pretty proud of this hawk jar that I made for my dad.

Sgraffito stingray ceramic wall hanging

I encountered this sweet blue-spotted ribbontail stingray last year off the coast of Krabi. One of the most exhilarating things about diving is being able to meet wild animals in their environment, where the sea is their home and you are a visitor.

Using the sgraffito method, I made a wall-hanging piece. I used a white underglaze from Botz on a wheel-thrown dish in grey speckled fine-grogged stoneware clay. I find this gives it a rustic weathered feel that naturally associates with the sea. Design was carved with a ball-end needle tool. Holes for hanging the piece. Fired to 1200C. I added elements of the sublime kelp forests and shells encountered in Cornwall to surround him.

I draw a lot of inspiration for my art from my surroundings, trying to capture my feelings in that moment I experienced in my pieces. For my interests to overlap and inspire one another is marvellous! It’s been exciting getting to know my medium through these challenges I set for myself, being able to explore different methods in a medium that is varied as it is ancient.
