Stage Manager
Feeling kind of unsure about where I stand in crew.
I was kinda worried over who our director would pick for stage manager. Mostly because he hadn't picked anyone for stage manage and the auditions were already over, but also because he hadn't picked anyone for stage manager and the auditions were already over.
I mean, damn. I can't even do the play (cross country interfers), but I've been in Crew since freshmen year, and I was concerned! Not to mention, our former Stage Mom said she recommended me for it. (But I figured I was out because I have sports during the play.)
So I found the director in the halls about a week ago and I was like "Uh, Mack, do we know who stage manager is yet?"
And Director Mack, in his infinite capacity to inspire confidence said "Hm. No, I guess we don't really know. I mean, I thought it was a given that you'd be doing it, as the most senior member-"
...!?
"- But you can't do the play right? Right, because of cross country. So I'm not really sure who to use for the play."
So since my brain was somewhere on the floor and I didn't have time to look for it, my Senior Powers activated to fill in the gap and I was like "Well, There's Marrisa, since she's Stage Mom this year and they used to be one job, and there's also Victor, who's only a junior but he's crewed every production since he entered the school, and then there's Tess, who would be good because she'd only be here for the play, so the two of us could just switch off when she goes to her theater internship."
And my brain (from on the floor) was like "Dayum, Janet, you were on the ball!"
And Mack was like "Hm, okay, I'll take that into consideration."
So given that Mack had told me I was going to stage manage the musical (isn't that what happened? I think that happened?) I went to go fill in Marrisa, because as Stage Mom I figured she should know what's going on.
Good thing, too, because Mack picked her to manage the play.
But, like.
He didn't tell her "You're Stage Manager of the play" as far as I know. She just said all breathlessly when I asked that Mack had made her stage manager.
So, does that mean I'm out? Or will Marrisa and I co-manage the musical? We did mention that when I filled her in on the candidates I gave Mack. But it would make me sound whiny to ask Mack about that, and unsupportive to ask Marrisa. And, like... She'll be more experienced as a manager by the time we get to the musical, so maybe Mack's just decided to cut me out of the loop now that he's using her?
But... I've been in crew longer than Marrisa. Even without the play, I've crewed more shows than her. Doesn't that count for something? Even Marrisa was surprised that she got Stage Mom, and said she'd assumed it would be me. (Apparently a lot of people assumed it'd be me. The only ones who didn't were me, Tess, and the sitting Stage Mom, and the rest of crew got me on board with the idea. But nope.)
Oh... And regardless of all the Manager stuff, I am in charge of the Wood Loft. That was decided last year. The last Lady of the Loft left it to me and Victor, so I went to the first day of Crew to give the new freshmen the safety spiel over the woodloft. And Marrisa took my spiel, guys. Even if she didn't do it on purpose. She. Took. My. Spiel.
I'm feeling a little unneeded, basically.
