Hey what's the batb au where the author incorrectly uses a racism allegory? So I can NEVER read it. Is it that Twisted Tales book??
it is :/
the allegory itself, for those who are curious, paints magic users (who call themselves and are known as les charmants) as an underclass in the Beast’s kingdom [he’s not even born yet at the start of the story, but his parents rule it].
now as stated in that post, any allegory where the oppressed class hold a genuine threat to the ruling class does not work as a racism allegory; while the vast majority of les charmants we see are unable to produce ‘big magic’, the conceit of the story is that belle’s mother (rosalind) cursed the beast. so right off the bat, this is a shitty allegory.
the author then went on to describe the forced migration of les charmants as pogroms do i need to explain why that’s fucked up and also there’s a minor plot point about smuggling les charmants out of the kingdom and sheltering them in the family home for a night. which has … parallels. mild spoilers: m. d’arque of the lunatic asylum takes some of les charmants and tortures them in a medical setting. again … rather unsavoury parallels. (of course, there are no jewish characters, and while some of les charmants don’t have the whitest of names, all of our mains are white and gentile [belle and the prince are both christened in-text]. so.)
but the cherry on top of this shitstain of a racism allegory comes in the last few pages. rosalind wonders if maybe d’arque, who was torturing les charmants for no reason other than their ethnic background, was right. that maybe les charmants and humans are genetically different to one another. in response, belle says this:
You’re doing the same thing D’Arque did … applying the actions of one to a whole people. That’s ridiculous. Whether you’re Huguenot or Catholic or Jewish or gypsy [emphasis mine] or short or have dark skin – or blue skin. Everyone is different. Each person has his or her own soul and is master of his or her own destiny.
why yes. that is a racist slur right in the middle of belle’s final rousing speech. our heroine, everyone.
[and just as a final aside, no other racial/sectarian tension has occurred throughout this story, which makes this speech? yep, you guessed it – Entirely Pointless]
Happy Birthday Hannah!
Thank you!

do the brave thing and bravery will follow.
want one?
Hey, the hanleia fandom definitely wants you! I'm not really active (I just read and approve) but I love the content you create! Unfortunately I'm suuuuper behind on the legendary heroine 'verse bc my real life has been garbage. But I honestly think about that AU every day and it's my favorite star wars AU.
Oh my god, this is such an honor, thank you so much
i'm sorry? people were sending u nasty messages about ur darcy and elizabeth aesthetics??? that's bullshit. a.) they were fantastic and b.) even if they're not to someone's specific taste it's ur damn blog! i loved them and they gave me all kinds of shippy feels
