Heyy, just wanna say that I've been following you for some time now but I never actually got around to reading any of your fics. I gotta travel tomorrow, and I took a peek at the newest Robmo fic - needless to say, I'm beyond excited to read it on the bus 😁

One question tho - do you have a favourite? Out of all your works, is there a particular fic you'd recommend I read first for some reason?

To answer your question on where to start, they're all listed in a series (In Burning Red) on Ao3. I've functionally been writing all my football stories like an ensemble television show. So every fic builds on the next builds on the next, even though it jumps through various couples. I'd recommend that you start with Headfirst, Fearless and go from there.

As for a favourite, in the series, so far, it's probably Sweet, Sweet Superstar (Time, Curious Time), which takes place after Scotland qualify for the wc. Or Starry Eyes Sparking Up My Darkest Night, which takes place during the night of this year's Ballon d’Or.

2: What scene did you first put down?

It was a version of the scene in front of the fire in chapter 3. In the beginning that was just going to be the whole story, just the lads hanging out around a fire talking about the years, and then after everyone else went to bed Ziall getting back together. It evolved beyond that but that's where it started. I realized that I had more to say so I built around it.

3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

I've got quite a few but this bit in the flashback that starts chapter 6 is the first that came to mind.

If you searched the rain-soaked gravel you could find little glittering parts of his heart, Niall thought painfully.

Freezing cold looking at them through the window wondering how the hell he could have lost the love of his life before he even realised it himself. Every bit of history crumbled under his feet.

11: What do you like best about this fic?

The variety of relationships and the way they all show up for each other.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

After October I was scared to continue writing this story when it would never be five again. I didn't know how to write the ending or anything really. But it became apparent to me that our stories and our memories are a way to give gifts to others in this space. Dreaming up stories where it all works out in the end and love is overflowing gives a little comfort. I was so close to finishing the fic before and it would have been a shame to let a world like this go. Writing the end and the rest of the series became a place for my love for him to go. Writing this universe was a chance to continue to put into the world my sincerest wishes for him. It's a story I've wanted to write for a long time so I'm glad the moment was right.

I'm really confused - he already has a song on his album called Fuchsia Sea so is this rap meant to be like an add-on to the song?

Hiya Anon,

This is gonna, unfortunately, be an unsatisfying answer to your question.

Only Zayn has that answer at this point. Loads of us have been wondering what exactly he’s up to here.

We don’t even have a release timeline, other than “Coming soon”. I see it as more of a part two to the Fuchsia Sea we have on Ruts because the subject material is similar (and I can break down the parallels if folks are interested in that).

There is some precedent for having songs with a similar title, often with the addition of part 2 in the title, from the same artist. These songs are typically songs where the songwriter revisits themes or characters from the first part. Until he comes back and tells us more I’m taking it as a part two.

It’s also entirely possible that the next album carries this title, and the song we got from Zayn has a different title, we don’t know. If it turns out to be an extended version of what we already have, that would be cool, it doesn’t totally blend at the present moment, so maybe we’re also missing the blend bridging these two fuchsia seas. There are puzzle pieces we don't have yet to complete the picture regardless of what he's up to.
