Onry Ozzborn - Nervous Hvnd (@300clubrecords) @onozz717 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hella stoked to share this record with ya’ll today. I had a chance to meet with Jason of 300 Club Records last week to geek out on Onry Ozzborn, the record label, and all things current and former music. He hooked me up with a copy of Nervous Hvnd, Onry Ozzborn’s brand new release and this album is so good I haven’t been able to stop listening to it. If you’re new to his (aka Michael Martinez) work, he’s a Seattle local (originally from NM) who’s been in all sorts of groundbreaking PNW hip-hop and rap groups over the past few decades including @drktimesunshine, Grayskull, and Oldominion and has worked with many folks you also know like @aesoprockwins, @therealmrlif, @busdriverr, and @yeahrightpos. When Jason first connected me with this album I immediately heard elements of everything I love about old-school #definitivejux aka @thereallyrealelp ‘s label that housed some of the folks mentioned above. It’s frantic, it’s bold, and it’s got some seriously tight beats from front to back. I’d go as far as to say his vocal stylings are not entirely unlike El-P himself, but Onry absolutely has his very own thing going on here too, there is no biting anyone else’s approach here. I often geek out about Fantastic Damage, one of El-P’s early works, because of how chaotic and frenetic the soundscapes are and I get a lot of the same feeling from Nervous Hvnd, albeit a much cleaner, masterfully produced version. It’s pretty rare that 1) I can’t stop listening to a submission and 2) I know immediately that it will be in my collection permanently, but here we are. I want to give a final shoutout to @blackbeltmastering for the gorgeous lacquer cut here.
