So... after reading Owari no Seraph chapter 90... I have a potentially strong theory...
Mika is not gone forever. Instead, he’s gonna become Seraph Mika and potentially alive and well.
So... if we look back in the storyline of Owari no Seraph, some things we can confirm:
Both Mika and Yuu carry the Seraph gene.
The seraph can heal the body of its host from fatal wounds, like how yuu survived his ruptured organs.
The seraph of the end project was an experiment to revive the dead. And this has been proven to work in the light novel series “Catatstrophe at Sixteen” when Guren successfully revived Shinya and crew.
So with that covered, let’s talk the most recent chapter(s) of Owari no Seraph.
Mika, after vowing to protect Yuu with his life, drained his life force by allowing his sword to drink his blood to attack Guren. After Yuu’s talk with ashuramaru about killing himself to stay with Mika, Mika is surrounded by some lightning-esque energy and eventually “dies” via appearing to have exploded.
This death does not make sense for Mika as a vampire.... however it makes perfect sense if he was a seraph. But he’s still not dead. Mika has never awoken his seraph gene unlike Yuu. When Yuu initially transformed, black energy and some lightning-esque energy enveloped him. Which looks very similar to Mika’s death in chapter 90. So he may be instead awakening instead of dying.
There’s also the evidence of seraph’s healing their hosts from fatal wounds, meaning if they can easily regenerate all ruptured organs, then it’s no stretch that they can regenerate limbs, since mika’s body got split...
So when Ashuramaru says that it’s too late for mika and that he’s too far gone, maybe he’s referring to his seraph transformation and how you sacrifice your humanity to become a seraph.
So potentially, Mika awakens into a seraph, of which trumpet is to be determined, but as a result of transforming, his body will be healed. This could go two ways...
Seraph Mika and Demon Yuu fight back against Guren
Both Yuu and Mika turn seraph and fight back and we will see the full extent of Mahiru’s power.
I doubt guren will be killed, but a push back is most probable.
After all this goes down, Mika will be snapped out of Seraph form, and due to the ways the seraph heals the body of the host, he will be, hopefully, alive and well but now with the potential to reawaken.
Now, time to address some counter points....
Evidence of Mika potentially not exploding at the end of chapter 90...
The explosion shows bits of debris flying from the central explosion. However, due to the strength and force of the initial seraph transformation, the seraph explosion could easily cause debris to fly, especially since mika “died” in a generally open area. There is also a panel showing floating debris above where Yuu is holding Mika after he gets split in chapter 89 (specifically pages 26-27), so this could explain the final panel in chapter 90.
Putting my art student knowledge into this too, Mika slowly ascended into the air before exploding. The area around them is confirmed to have destroyed buildings around the vicinity. Perspective makes it so things further away look smaller than we think. Therefore, the scene, based on previous panels, is most likely from Yuu’s point of view. Yuu never left the ground when mika ascended. Therefore the explosion could be relatively high up and large enough to cause debris from surrounding buildings to fly. The blank panel is also a creative choice to intentionally cause the panel to be mysterious and inconclusive.
Now... what trumpet could mika be if this theory is true...?
Well, the first, third, fourth, and seventh trumpet are left as the second (yuu), fifth, and sixth have already been confirmed.
So let’s delve into some history.
I can confirm that the trumpets in Owari no Seraph strongly reference the seven trumpets in the Book of Revelation. Especially with Kimizuki’s sister being the fifth trumpet. They needed to get Abaddon to posses her in order to fully control her and her powers, while in the book of revelation, the fifth trumpet summons demons that are controlled by Abaddon. Even with Yuu being the second trumpet, when he transforms fully, he is surrounded by a large pillar of fire and in the book of revelation, the second trumpet described as "a great mountain burning with fire" plunges into the ocean. And when ocean water evaporates, what’s left behind is... salt!
The options left for mika are: 1, 3, 4, and 7.
Many of these could make sense for mika, though I find that the first and seventh trumpet make the most sense.
The first trumpet in the Book of Revelation summons fire and hail mixed with blood to burn down most trees and green grass. Aside from a “burning passion/love for yuu” joke, it would make sense if both Mika and Yuu were seraphs associated with fire due to how close they are.
The seventh trumpet in the Book of Revelation is the final trumpet in the set, and ‘Loud voices in Heaven will say: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign forever and ever."’ This kind of implies a never-dying force which would also make sense since mika has been a vital character throughout Owari no Seraph. The whole story for the most part was in some way driven by him, whether it be Yuu trying to find him alive, to them working together with the Shinoa squad. So similar to the ever powerful Messiah, Mika is an ever-powerful presence throughout the story.
And there you have it. My long and in depth theory on Owari no Seraph. Please note that this is not confirmed at all and is only a theory. You can agree or disagree, but we all know that we will not get the confirmed case until June 3rd.
