Hey can we talk about how out of our entire gang of NPCs in Shadow of the Erdtree - you know, Sir Ansbach, Sir Moore, Thiollier, Needle Knight Leda, Dryleaf Dane, Redmane Freyja... - the only one without a name is the Hornsent?
That's all he's referred to as.
Shadow of the Erdtree starts you out with the mass graves on the Gravesite Plain and the Belurat Tower Settlement in which you learn of Messmer's crusade - a straight up genocide of the Hornsent people orchestrated by Marika and almost even the entire obliteration of their culture - but then you're introduced to our group of NPCs and the Hornsent is the only one whose name we never get. He doesn't have an identity other than the group of people in which he belongs to. Now, this could be taken as the Hornsent carrying on what's left of his culture and his people, making what's left of them his entire identity. But it could also be taken as yet another erasure of the Hornsent people themselves. The erasure of personal identity in never giving him a name. As if he weren't important enough to be called by his name at all, burying him as nothing but "just a Hornsent".
