On this day in 1466 Elizabeth of York was born. Elizabeth was the third child, and oldest daughter, of King Edward IV of England and Elizabeth Woodville. She married once: King Henry VII of England - 1486 to 1503 (her death). They had four children: Arthur, Prince of Wales, Margaret, Queen of Scots, King Henry VIII and Mary, Queen of France. The daughter of a Yorkist king, she married a Lancastrian descendant. This effectively ‘put an end’ to the War of the Roses as the two houses were united by this marriage however, many York claimants were tried, and executed, during the reigns of the various Tudor monarchs. All future English and Scottish monarchs would be descended from Henry VII and Elizabeth of York with their oldest daughter, Margaret, marrying the Scottish King. Their line would eventually ascend to the English throne after James VI and I, their great-great grandson, became monarch of both on the death of the granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth I. #onthisday #onthisday1466 #february11th #history #learnthroughsocialmedia #elizabethofyork #queen #elizabeth #queenelizabeth #england #birth #houseofyork #houseoftudor #tudor #tudorhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CLIYsjilF4U/?igshid=149098oitc9ef
