I walked into the studio today and the resonance between these two pieces stopped me in my tracks. They represent the dual nature of my studio practice, and there are so many things I love about each of them. For the past several years I feel as if I have been all over the place, switching from sculpture to pots, porcelain to terra cotta, casting to pinching to throwing and back again. I love all of these things, but I end up feeling that I don't give any one "thing" enough time and attention to develop fully. I have always been slow to make major changes, and letting go of anything is always difficult, but as I am packing and preparing for another move I have been contemplating what I want to make happen in this next leg of my journey. I've come to the conclusion that the first step is to start with a clean slate. As part of a commitment to a more unified studio practice, I will be retiring all of the molds I've been using and lugging around for the last 6 years.... #wishmeluck #lettinggoishard #ontonewadventures #changeisgood #somanythoughts #talkingtomyself (at Doane University)
