Donāt get me wrong - i love the pics of SamCait on the red carpet or from a photoshootā¦i really, really doā¦Itās just that the bts pics are even more precious to me because we see the obvious affection and love they have for each other rather UNPLUGGEDā¦i mean, small glimses that are not guarded or posed but entirely SamCaitĀ without the prying public eye to interfer and still they tell a LOVE STORY. These pics speak even deeper to me than the adorable red carpet pics: about a mutual, deep love and affection - unguarded! Precious little gems indeedā¦

Book challenge: most overrated book
Iām still going and Iām determined not to let this die⦠Weāve just found out lām just terrible at challenges⦠Anyway, I wasnāt sure what this one actually meant, most overrated generally or by me. So, Iāve gone with both, and Iāve got two books in one post again.
My first book is generally overrated and for this Iāve gone with Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
I loathe this book, not the story but the book itself (1995 BBC version with Colin Firth is amazing!) I really dislike regency literature, and the period in general, and I canāt stand the false politeness of the characters the whole way through. I found Lizzy and Jane insufferable and Darcy was the only one I could stand (although Mrs Benet was hilarious, best bit of the novel and the only part I found funny). I seriously donāt get the love for this book as a book! For someone so caught up in history I found it difficult to read and unrewarding.
However, for my personally most overrated book Iāve picked Donna Tarttās The Secret History.
This is a book I happened to read at the right moment, if I picked it up now for the first time I know I wouldnāt like it nearly as much as I do⦠But when I was 16 the atmosphere, aesthetic and immorality of the characters captured my attention. I have good memories of reading this book late into the night and adoring it.
It was a complete accident that I read it when I did, but elitist, classics driven books were my thing back then and I have found a soft spot for this book ever since. However, I have since seen the numerous problems with this kind of lifestyle, even if I havenāt fallen put of love with the idea of it⦠Itās the closest I get to a guilty pleasure really!
So I come out of my self-imposed Tumblr jail to put this out there ... I just don't get it. I feel like Elaine from Seinfeld saying that she hated "The English Patient."
Paleyfest 2018.

I am so sorry Bree/Roger, this is how you slay a fight š
Now we know where Bree gets her right hook!
There is so much angst about Roger in the fandom right now. Would you be willing to weigh in? I trust your opinion
Itās a really hard topic, but here are the things I know at this point in time:Ā
When I think of Book!Roger, my regard is generally positive. I love who he ultimately becomes, particularly his tenderness as a father. I also live for his relationships with Jamie and Claireā their love of him as part of their family is just so true and genuine, it makes me love him all the more. And, truly, his and Breeās relationship often is a much more accurate reflection of the actual work of married relationships. Itās a dose of reality that can feel troubling compared to Jamie and Claire, but I appreciate it all the more, the longer Iām married myself. He and Bree have a wonderful relationshipābut itās not effortless, and thatās comforting to see, even in a romanticized fictional world.Ā
Season 2 and 3 Roger was deeply endearing, particularly in contrast to the limited glimpses we got of Brianna as a character in that same timeframe. In a way, he made up for the ways in which she lacked: In the times she may have come across as cold and unsympathetic, his warmth helped us believe in her. ((As a side note, I have been THRILLED with Sophieās character and performance from the very first moment this season, and itās so wonderful to be rooting for her so enthusiastically. All the kudos to herā She is finally, unquestionably my Bree!))
With those two things being the case, Iāve realized how easily I slip my blinders on for Rogerās behavior in Drums of Autumn. I read all the books in a nonstop marathon a year or two ago, so I didnāt have much time to fret about Roger as a negative character. I moved quickly from his YIKES moments in Drums straight to the other books, in which he really grows and develops. When it comes right down to it though, I believe many of his actions and stances are truly problematic, and as much as I hate to say it, I believe Season 4 is doing a good job of actually showing him in that light. The show isnāt pulling this stuff from nowhere: he actually says those things. He actually does those things, and thatās deeply uncomfortable because itās a character i DO ultimately root for!Ā
For now, my bottom line opinion is that I know heāll soon be shown in a much better light; even so, Iām not going to make excuses for his words and actions this season. They are what they are: pretty awful, and not how I or anyone I love would deserve to be treated. My sincere hope is that we get to see him actually have some remorse and growth, not just forgiveness. It would be so dreadful to see these things glossed over with aĀ āWell, I was angry and a man, so that explains it. Love me!ā narrative. This is essentially how it comes across in the book, so I suspect there will be some of this. Still, one can hope.Ā Ā
Iām crossing my fingers that they use all the conflict as a chance for he and Bree to have some true growth, as inĀ āI canāt believe I said those things to you. Looking back, it was truly indefensible and Iām so sorry. I vow to be better and to actually hear you in our marriage.ā Something along these lines will do so much to diminish theĀ āDear God, this fool does NOT deserve the sweet treasure that is Briannaā feeling that is dominating my viewing just at present.Ā
TLDR:Ā Iām not writing Roger off or putting myself in the hate camp because I know whatās to come for him and I know he becomes a better person. Still, poking fun or shade at him in tags or reblogs feels like one of the only ways to deal with the visceral dislike season four Roger is provoking in me as a viewer. This is a grey area Iām fully okay inhabiting.Ā
Seconded. Also: Roger kinda totally wants to bang Claire, is a coo coo ca choo Mrs. Robinson sort of way.
All of this and I think Bree has a lot of growing up to do also. Furthermore - hello - a marriage of 2 only children would not be smooth sailing. Neither Bree or Roger have even found their vocation yet. As I was watching Claire & Brianna folding clothes I'm thinking neither of those women will be happily domestic for long.
fandom is so weird you never know how old anyone is but you just kinda assume most of them are around your age until proven otherwise and then one day someone is talking about their 9 year old kid on your dash and another person is saying they just finished 10th grade. wild. Ā
reblog and tag with your age, so your mutuals know

What are your thoughts on the mature- rebel -leader version of Murtagh this season?
Wednesday, January 3, 2019 (1817 Standard Outlander Time)
Dear @thetigerfanlove,
Welcome to my first Q&A of 2019! Thank you for initiating the New Yearās nonsense.
Iām setting aside my veil and bouquet to answer your question as a fan. š Try not to visualize me as a š» while you read my drivel. (Inside joke. Me dear olā pal tends to misidentify wild animals. š¹)
I am impressed with the mature, rebel-leader version of Murtagh this season.
In Season 1, we saw Murtagh as Jamieās loving, loyal godfather-protector. A solitary man of few words, comfortably unkempt, and ready to support Jamie ā and Claire ā in any given dayās chaos.
During the first half of Season 2, we saw Murtagh with a new wardrobe and the unwelcome burden of that shameless slut Suzette. Despite these hardships, being Claire and Jamieās closest ally remained his role, and so it continued when fate ferried the Frasers back to Scotland and into more relaxed clothing for the second half of the season. (We saw a brief glimpse of Murtagh The Leader when, under Jamieās direction, he trained the lads to battle the Redcoats inĀ The Rising of ā46.)
Unbeknown to us mere mortals, everyoneās favourite show runner, Ronald D. Moore, defied the Outlander book gods and delivered unto us one less dead Highlander on Culloden Field.
Murtagh FitzGibbons Fraser, meet Season 3
We saw Murtagh for a welcome, but all-too brief time last season and, between live ratsā biting him and his eating dead ones, we feared he might not survive. His weakened condition created a role reversal, with Jamieās becoming his protector and his delegate in Ardsmuir Prisonās governorās office. Murtagh was among the prisoners transported from Ardsmuir into indentured servitude in the Thirteen Colonies at the end of Episode 3 and, although his rat bite wound was healing and his general health improving, the poor soul still looked like death warmed over. Who knew if he would survive the sea voyage much less the next Droughtlander?
Enter Season 4 Episode 5 and boyneriverās return to this cesspool of time mismanagement
#MurtaghSaved
Now we see Murtagh as a sly silver fox, with trimmed beard, washed knees, a confident air, AND A FREAKINā TRADE!
Much is made of the strife Claire and Jamie endured from the end of The Rising to the fainting in the printshop, but what of Murtaghās suffering? There was no hot running water or Too Much Of Frank in well-furnished surroundings to comfort him. He had neither Lallybroch family, nor knowledge his (god)son was cared for by loving nobility, to ease his burden. He had become a reluctant outlander.Ā A stranger in a strange land.
Fortunately, misfortune could not keep a good man down.
Murtagh survived The Rising, the rat bite, transportation, indentureship, and loss of kith and kin. He carved out a life for himself outside of Scotlandās familiar embrace. He now has his own purpose, his own responsibilities, his own life. Heās the blacksmith! āAye. I mastered all order of smithery.ā
And yet⦠heās still a Highlander. Dig that swatch of Fraser tartan boldly pinned to his chest.
And a proud one⦠The Redcoats and their king have already taken too much from his people. Heās mad as hell and heās not going to take it anymore.
Heās had front-row seats, watching Jamie ā and Dougal MacKenzie ā rally civilians into action, along with his own stint as commanding officer during The Rising. Armed with reason rather than rifle, a confident Murtagh ā independent of Jamie ā has assumed a leadership role in a new rebellion.
New world. Renewed purpose. Same damn Redcoats.
Yes, Iām impressed with mature, rebel-leader Murtagh. Heās been to hell and back, and emerged stronger, wiser, and slyer. Like the sliver fox he is.
You know, I watched his scenes in Savages over and over, and not once was I reminded of Douglas MacKenzieās rabble rousing in Season 1. Murtaghās no snake oil salesman or showman ā I mean, have you SEEN his sword dancing? ā when he wants your attention, he calls a meeting. He doesnāt invite you to join him and the lads later for a drink. When Murtagh convenes the group, they already know the agenda.Ā
Do I think heāll continue in this leadership role as is? Beats me. Do I want him to? No.
I want Murtagh ā and Jamie, Fergus, Ian, and Roger ā to work and play well with others, to pay fair taxes, and enjoy the rewards of life on Fraserās Ridge. I want them to rebel against unfair taxes, civilly⦠from a distance. And when the times comes ā SPOILER ALERT ā for them to once more fight for their independence from British rule, I want them alive and well enough to answer the call. Let someone elseās husband lead the Regulators. Murtagh deserves life on the Ridge. And Briannaās and her childrenās generations have so much to learn from him.
And that, dearest @thetigerfanlove, is all about it. You ā and anyone else in the class still sifting through this drivel ā are good people. Thanks, again, for your question. Happy New Year and Alba gu brĆ th. š“ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó “ó æ

@boyneriver-fraser All of this and I am thrilled to see that Murtaugh's magic eyebrows are intact! What I have missed - and am missing still - is some quality Fergus/Murtaugh interaction. Maybe when the young Frasers make their way to the Ridge.
