ONE PLACE
♦ The Dravanian Forelands - Jenesis fled to Gridania and then eventually to Coerthas after being forced to leave Ul’dah. Over the years, she trained to become a dragoon and steadily earned the trust of several Ishgardian men and women. The Forelands house a lone, little-known monument, one risen to commemorate her fallen comrades. Jenesis visits there regularly, alone, as penance.
TWO VILLAINS
♦ Matthieu Thermidor. A man who holds much of Ul’dah in his pocket, including the Brass Blades. His powerful connections and his desire to reclaim Jude make him one of Jenesis’ most dangerous enemies. If anyone could find her Achilles heel within the city walls, it’s him.
♦ Ishi Zuka. A mysterious, powerful lunatic, who is drawn to the innate power contained within Gaufrier Lespoir, a young boy Jenesis has sworn to protect. His absolute disregard for any peril, his extreme strength, and his maniacal tendency to kill, without hesitation, anyone who gets in his way, makes him a powerful rival for Jen.
THREE RELATIONSHIPS
♦ Her friend, Marius Krieg. While Marius appears like an idiot drunk on the exterior, he is actually the one who perhaps knows Jenesis the best of all. They fought together at the Battle of Carteneau and stuck together in the aftermath of the calamity, eventually finding their way to membership within Odin’s Honor. Jenesis appreciates Marius’ ability to keep a secret - a trait that she also knows he appreciates in her as well.
♦ Her friend/young charge, Gaufrier Lespoir. Jenesis and Marius found Gaufrier on the outskirts of Ul’dah some time ago and rescued him from the edge of death when he foolishly decided to dive headfirst in front of a bomb to save a baby chocobo. The two realized almost immediately that Gaufrier was someone special and needed protection, so they took him under their wings and began to travel with him. One day, they were set upon by an ambush and Gaufrier was taken. Jenesis is still looking for him, and may the Gods find mercy for whoever gets in her way...
♦ Her brother, Exodus Labariel. Jenesis’ relationship with her brother seems pretty cut-and-dry to any outsider: she dishonored their family, he’s angry and wants to bring her to justice, but she’s evaded him for 20 years. To Jenesis, however, and those who know her closely, her relationship with Exodus is far more complicated. Exodus intends to bring her to justice at all costs - at the same time, despite the danger, Jenesis refuses to harm her brother or take his life.
FOUR ITEMS
♦ A shield, tarnished and worn, its crest barely recognizable anymore.
♦ A broken arrow, hidden away in a chest under her bed.
♦ A dragon’s tooth, fashioned into a necklace she wears tucked beneath her clothing and armor.
♦ A journal, encased in faded red leather and wrapped in a frayed leather cord. An old quill is slid into the cording.
FIVE CHARACTERS
♦ Crimen Vereor. Crimen is the proprietress of Odin’s Honor and the one who first extended her hand to Jen and Marius when they were looking for a place to call home. Crimen is one of the few who has some idea of what Jenesis has been through, and is also one of the first to call Jen’s crap when she starts shutting people out to “keep them safe.”
♦ Mirazu Ysen. Mirazu is another member of Odin’s Honor and quickly became one of Jenesis’ good friends. He is a talented mage with a great thirst for knowledge, one that has often carried their company deep into Allagan ruins. Mirazu’s expertise lies in deciphering texts and determining why things work the way they do, while Jenesis’ expertise happens to be dismantling them.
♦ Cain Rhuin. An insufferable beast of a man, Cain is one of the senior members of Odin’s Honor and a right pain in Jenesis’ ass. Cain is outspoken, stubborn, and gruff, and often tends to point out the flaws and holes in anyone’s plans. Doing so makes the plan stronger, of course, but Cain has often said that unless he’s ruffled feathers in the process, he isn’t doing his job properly. The two of them seem to clash outwardly, but in fact hold each other in high esteem.
♦ Kyrn Draconis. Another of Jenesis’ companions from the war, Kyrn taught her a great deal about her art and how to fight. She had learned the technical aspects of the Dragoon from Ishgard, but Kyrn taught her how to apply it when fighting non-dragons, opponents of a different discipline, or just downright dirty fighters. Jenesis’ unconventional fighting style comes from years of sparring with Kyrn and studying his teachings closely.
♦ Winzig Siegler. One of Jenesis’ dear friends and her contact in Ul’dah. He is one of the main reasons she has been able to stay a step ahead of Exodus all of these years. Winzig is known for his kind heart and his extreme and utter loyalty to his friends. When Jenesis came to him and asked for his help protecting Gaufrier, he agreed without any hesitation.
SIX MOMENTS
♦ Her final encounter with her brother Exodus before she fled Ul’dah for good. He accused her of dishonoring their entire family with her actions; Jenesis remembers it so poignantly because it’s true.
♦ Running into Sylvan Rain while breaking into one of the Castrums to search for Gaufrier. It was through meeting her that Jenesis came to meet Ashelia Riot and the rest of the Riskbreakers, in whom she has found several steadfast allies.
♦ A conversation with Jude after a sparring match wherein Jenesis realized how lost he was and how strongly he reminded her of Gauf. They spoke of Knighthood, philosophies, and honor - a conversation that sticks with her quite strongly because it had been so long since she’d remembered that piece of her life.
♦ An encounter with one Matthieu Thermidor where he demanded that she return Jude to him. He made her a “generous” offer of a newer, ‘up-to-date’ model with ‘that ridiculous manner of talking’ and a sum of gil to give him up. Jenesis gave him a broken nose, instead.
♦ A fight, long ago, with a dragon named Svarra as she protected her brood. Jenesis was injured during the battle and some of the dragon’s blood mixed with her own, enhancing her dragoon abilities and putting her almost at constant war with the beast that whispers inside her mind.
♦ The day Gaufrier Lespoir was taken from her. As fueled by rage as she is to find those responsible, she is also consumed by a deep fear for his well being and an immense guilt at her failing to protect him.
SEVEN QUOTES
♦ “Eventually, she will learn that not all burdens are meant to be borne alone.” -Mirazu Ysen to Crimen Vereor, of Jenesis (story link here.)
♦ “You have two choices: walk away, and I forget you were here.. or say one more word, and I’ll make you wish you weren’t.” -Jenesis
♦ “You’re stubborn as hell, you know that? Rhalgr himself would have trouble getting through to you.” -Sylvan Rain (said of Jenesis)
♦ "I may fight well, and with what most would call honor, but that hardly makes me deserving. Unless you believe that the deeds of today can truly erase errors of the past." -Jenesis
♦ "My body will heal. Just some aches and pains -- nothing I am unused to. These are but surface wounds, Jude. They will heal much more easily than other kinds." -Jenesis
♦ "You... Accept slights against your person with much grace, my lady. I hope to be as skilled myself one day." -Jude, of Jenesis
♦ “If I knew it would end this way...if I knew, after everything, that this is where the road diverged for us...I would walk it again. A million times and more.” -Jenesis, of Winzig Siegler
