"What a Shame"
“You’re bound to die alone” they say Their faces drawn with pity They tut and shake their heads, The disappointment clear as day “You’ll tear your future into shreds! What a waste, a face this pretty!” As if my fate was drawn when I just chose a different way
“My friends bring me such joy, such bliss!” “It’s not the same” they claim You say I’m on my own? The way I see it is like this When I was broken, my friends came They’ve never left me sad, alone That love they show is strong and true, even without a kiss
“You’ll never find true happiness” They say, “how sad you’ll be” I know myself, my heart And maybe it can be a mess But forcing myself to depart From such a vital part of me Would never make me more fulfilled, it'd only make me less
“Aren’t you afraid to die alone?” They ask, confusion shown I smile, on my sunny steps, and simply answer “No.”
