So that was terrifying. I broke the master molding and casting this and I really wasn’t sure the ears were going to come out. molding and casting!

This week in 4.140 (How to Make) we worked on rapid prototyping. We CNC’d blocks of wax and filled them with Oomoo, the light blue stuff, (and I also used moldmax for heat-resistant molding - the red goop). Then, those molds were used to make positives of some object (the hydrostone disk). I made a wax seal stamp with my first initial and will be doing aluminum casting soon!

Hello! You helped respond to my resin woes a few months back. I've now got a pressure pot on the way and am going to place a new silicone order. You mentioned switching to Moldstar and it working well for you. Can I ask which Moldstar number you're using? Oomoo has failed me for the last time. Thank you in advance!

Hey there! I remember you. You have those lovely owls.I have used Mold Star 15 and 16 both. I like 16 mostly because I’m more comfortable with the longer worktime, but both types of molds are holding up splendidly. 

My Oomoo molds are all starting to get crumbly. To be fair, they are older, and they were all cured in the open air. They have a spongy quality— one that I don’t think has anything to do with air bubbles— that is not present in the Mold Star molds.

Best of luck on your new casts. It’s worth every penny not to have to fight the atmosphere to get a quality pull.
