Goda!Eiji
OOO 10th spoilers ahead
I really liked OOO 10th! I don't have quite the emotional attachment to OOO as others do, but I really loved it. I think it was a curious decision to kill Eiji off, and I hated that we really didn't get to see EIJI during the movie, considering this is supposed to be kind of like a grand sendoff for OOO. There was a similar situation in another Rider's special, but it made sense due to the nature of that Rider series. It was really interesting that the premise basically made this the Faiz Last Paradise of OOO.
Birth X was really cool and very colorful, same with Tajador Eternity. Would be a shame if we never see those suits again especially with how expensive they had to be. The bad guys went down a bit too easily, but this was never about the fighting, and you can only fit so much in an hour.
Toei just leaves you wanting more, in a good way.
the summer eiji died
Ankh deserved to wrap Eiji in his wings at least once if you ask me
Still thinking about the OOO 10th movie after watching it on friday night and I think I've narrowed down my biggest critique with it (spoilers ahead obviously for those who havent seen it):
I think what kills me the most about the decision to kill Eiji off is that it's literally defying the very logic that they set up in the main series for how possession and healing a dying body with it work.
I like to read TVTropes just for fun sometimes when I'm bored and they make this point on Eiji's page in regards to how things go down in the movie:
But here's the thing: It literally didnt have to be that way. We see even Ankh's spirit, something he shouldn't be able to have but is granted due to how he helps Eiji out in the end of the series, following Eiji around while he travels to look for a way to bring him back. Eiji might not know hes there, but he is either way. Eiji's spirit is Clearly still hanging on enough that he's able to say goodbye to everyone in the end, and he is the one who pushes Ankh out of his body. That alone tells me he's there enough that he could have possibly been saved, had the writers wanted to go that way. (Also after all that time you cannot tell me it'd be that fuckin easy for Eiji to push Ankh out like that, I don't believe that for a second.)
It also would have been so much more Thematically fitting and a good way to bring things full circle if they had ended it on the note of "Ankh will possess Eiji until he's able to heal the same way he did for Shingo" because their relationship has Always worked on some level of give and take. Eiji spent a fuckin decade trying so hard to bring Ankh back, and after all that time I'd like to think (especially with how he reacts to Goda taking Eiji's body) that Ankh would care enough to try and help him to heal. It would be such a full circle and much more hopeful ending to everything, which was The Whole Point of the end of the original series too.
It just rubs me the wrong way to kill Eiji off in this way after how hard he fought to actually have something to Want to live for again. His promise was Always "a future that we can both live in together," not "one where I go so Ankh can stay." It makes no sense to kill him off like this when you could have very well given them their Actual hopeful decent ending, and it just rings hollow in the end.
Personally I chose to view this as some bad end timeline as a result of time fuckery from other series stuff but thats just me. It just sucks cause there Is concepts from the movie I like (Tajador Eternity fucks so hard and it gave Ankh his own body back too which is nice, and the Concept of Goda and Eiji being possessed by someone else Is actually a fun one for Ankh to deal with too) but that ending just sours the whole thing in the end.
