She folds her ivory and fawn wings behind her, tucking them out of the way as she crawls over the rock, to where she knows her voice will carry. The ship is set in its course, away from the sun that now slowly sinks below the horizon behind it. By the time the sailors would bother to notice the rocks, sharp and jagged and ready to claim the vessel, it will be too late. They will already be under her thrall. They will be hazy and unfocused, simple and uncaring in their dreams, even as the ship is dashed upon the reef. Even as they all fall under the surface of the waves. There they will stay; their flesh, food for the Ocean Mother and Her Children, their bones littering the seafloor for decades, for centuries, providing shelter for the smallest of creatures.
When the ship finally is in range, she sings.
The trick, she’s learned, is that it does not particularly matter what she sings about; the spell is not in the words, but in the tune. The sailors only hear what they want to hear: one will hear the familiar sounds of his homeland, another will hear the sighs of his beloved. Some will hear promises of fame, or riches, or both. Humans have myraid desires, and she’s sure by now that she knows them all. No, her words do not matter. In the end, it doesn’t even matter what they hear, for their fates are all the same. They will relax into the promise her song holds until their eyes close, never to reopen.
The ship approaches slowly, brought closer by the wind and sea. She is used to seeing this; none of the crew left standing, all with soft, serene smiles on their faces, but as this ship nears, she can see a single human standing at the rail, unusually alert.
Her voice dies in her throat, cut off by surprise and wonder. This man, like the rest, should be heedless - and yet there he stands. As she looks at him, she notices the things about him that are different, not quite the same as the others she has seen on ships before. He isn’t unshaven or grimy. He has a small, button nose. He has short, softly curled raven hair. His eyes, she sees as the ship drifts ever closer to the rocks, are almond-shaped and strikingly green - and they are not full of hazy dreams like the other sailors, nor are they full of fear, as they should be.
Instead, he just looks concerned as his gaze shifts and catches hers.
“Are you alright?” The man asks, and his voice also a pitch higher than she’d been expecting. “Were you shipwrecked here?”
She can do nothing but stare. He raises his voice, as though he thinks she just didn’t hear him, “Hello! Are you injured? Are there other survivors we should look for? The crew seems to have lost their wits, but I’m sure it’s just the rum they all drank. Would you like to try to come aboard? It’s very warm and safe - we have plenty of food for you, too!”
She blinks and he seems to flounder at the clear lack of response. “Uh - can you understand me?”
Surely, she thinks, this human must see something other than what is actually before him. Sometimes, on rare occasions, her song dazzles the mind into hallucinations instead of sleep. She continues to stare up at the handsome newcomer as she slowly spreads her wings wide, knowing it will break the illusion.
The sailor makes a loud noise of surprise, but there is still no fear in his expression. “Oh!” He exclaims, and he sounds...pleased. Excited, almost. “Oh, you’re a siren! Well, it seems you don’t need me to toss you a line to come aboard.”
If she wondered before, now she is confused. Of course she’s been on seafaring vessels before, but never so willingly invited. Never spoken to as nicely as this. She has been greeted with heat, but never warmth. Never anything gentle.
She stands and bends her knees, preparing to push against the rock surface, and the human steps back from the railing to give her space as she flies up and lands, perfectly balanced, on the rail. She keeps her wings held high as her claws dig into the wood, aiming for intimidation - but the human just stares at her with open awe.
She cannot help herself; “Are you not frightened of me?”
“Should I be?” He asks, standing a little straighter. She notes that he’s rather...quite short, for a sailor. Less looming and bulky, anyway. “Are you actually going to hurt me - uh—?”
“Seraphine,” she answers, an automatic response that has never been automatic before. She doesn’t even know why she does it - she’s never given her name to anyone before.
“Ah, because of the...?” He gestures idly to her still-fanned out wings.
“No. I chose it because I liked it.”
“I like it, too.” The human smiles. It’s soft and full of admiration - everything it absolutely shouldn’t be. She stares at him in bewilderment; this is not how it is supposed to go. Or rather, it has never gone like this before.
“Why are you...not frightened?” She wonders, and this time she relaxes her posture and lets her confusion show clearly. “Men usually know to fear me when they see me, if they have not already fallen to my song.”
“Oh, well that’s the thing...” the human gives a sly wink and holds a hand out, as if to help her off of the rail and down to the deck, “I’m not like men at all.”
Coward... Out of all the names, that’s the one she called me the most...
Coward... Coward... Worthless coward... Good for nothing coward...
And every time she called me that... I always believed it...
“Maybe I am a coward” I would say... “She’s right” I would say... “I need to toughen up a little bit” I would say...
Hmph... What a coward I was for giving in... What a coward I was for letting her call me that... What a coward I was for letting her order me around and treat me like a fucking toy...
Kehehehehe...
Well I’ll show her... In fact, I’ll show everyone...
I’ll make sure you know for a fact that I’m not a coward!!
...You fucking idiot...

i love this distinctive sneer Kylo gives Rey when he is probing her mind for the map....
It screams sex appeal and his “failing attempt” to dominate her. Ha! This method totally backfired on him five seconds later! And he’s left like “OH SHIIIIT!”
It was kinda bad Paimon crashed a huge ship on top of him and into his palace going at Mach Jesus they were trying to find him in the rubble for a while , he might be at a hospital in sloth rn.
@themosthatedbeingg
How had he not heard? How had he not been there? The Overlord’s pupils shrank to barely-perceptible slits as he growled, flames engulfing his form. The fire settled in his wings and tail as he emerged in his true demonic form, taking to the skies and rushing to the palace.
If Lucifer wasn’t there, he wouldn’t be able to go to him in another ring…
