The night went off without a single hitch and Olive felt immensely proud to see Willa so pleased. The crowd loved her, but as Olive watched Willa dance and mingle with people so different to them that they may as well be an entirely new species, people Olive would never fit in with, she came to a sudden realisation.

Willa fit in. Or at least she did a good enough job of pretending, a much better job than Olive anyway and though she was glad for her best friend, Olive couldn't help but feel like she might be losing her at the same time.

[ erwin ]: so how does it feel to finally be back in strangerville?

[ alice ]: fine i guess. it's hard not to think about everything that went down here.

[ erwin ]: oh.

[ alice ]: i mean– a man died. and what — they just ended up covering it all up. no one knows what george did, what he sacrificed. strangerville lives on, clueless.

[ erwin ]: … you know it's not your fault, right? george did what he did to save strangerville, to save us. that was his choice make - we couldn't have done anything.

[ alice ]: yeah, i guess. let's sit down and talk about something else.

5 minutes later.

[ alice ]: so, government agents showed up at your trailer, and you'd seen them before? what do you think they could be after?

[ erwin ]: i don't know, but i've been into conspiracies long enough to know nothing good. they might be trying to silence me. they followed me home from the curio shop.

[ alice ]: if they wanted us dead, it would've happened already. look, erwin — maybe it's time to give up the curio shop? we solved the mystery, the motherplant is dead. there's no more conspiracies to solve.

[ erwin ]: hm, maybe. i don't know— i still feel like there's more to all of this.

[ alice ]: whatever it is, i'm not getting involved. i moved away for a reason, to get away from all this.

[ erwin ]: yeah. i know.
