The evening was wearing on, and admittedly Abigail had had at least one more glass of champagne than she perhaps should have... not that she minded, though. The gala had already been dream-like in its opulence, and now she felt like she was floating through it, as light and buoyant as the champagne’s bubbles. She had never been much of a drinker, but tonight was an exception; she needed some liquid courage and holding a glass of champagne gave her something to do with her hands, made her feel less awkward.
And maybe she was feeling a little too comfortable, because when she bumped into Jinny her first reaction was to reach out to steady the other girl before dissolving into a fit of giggles that it took her a moment to recover from. Yeah, it was time to switch to water. “Sorry, sorry! I didn’t see you there - which is kind of crazy, because you look so pretty. I love your dress! You look like a Barbie!” Her tone was so over-the-top enthusiastic, it may have sounded fake if not for the big, genuine smile on her face.
