It’s like 2 am but I finally wrote opalis! I’m never budging from the idea that at first they bond over Steven. @opalisofficial
“Steven. I don’t understand how there’s a mission in the barn.” Lapis didn’t recognize the voice and she couldn’t see the speaker.
Steven responded, “Trust me, Opal.”
Opal hesitantly responded, “Okay, Steven.”
Steven opened the door to the barn and automatically bounced towards Lapis. Lapis smiled at him and he grinned at her and turned excitedly to look up at Opal.
Lapis looked up too and...oh. It was a fusion. Lapis had a very long time before she would even consider fusion again but fusions were okay. At least Garnet was. Opal was staring at her. She blinked at her a few times before looking to Steven. She asked, “What do you need me to do Steven?”
Steven was subtly struggling to have a reason for Opal to be here. He exclaimed, “Hey! Did you know that I wrote songs about both of you?”
Opal was easily distracted. She smiled at Steven and said, “I remember mine.”
Steven turned to completely face Opal and he said, “You do!”
Opal looked a little startled by the enthusiasm and hesitated before replying, “Well....mostly?” She didn’t sound sure, but Steven still seemed happy.
Steven said, “Oh! I have to get my ukulele! Opal stay here! I’ll be right back!”
Steven was out of the door before Opal replied. She smiled awkwardly down at Lapis and Lapis stared up at her. Lapis wasn’t sure how long that lasted before Opal suddenly said, “I’m Opal.”
Lapis was surprised into a smile. She nodded and responded, “Yeah... I’m Lapis.” Opal giggled and it was obviously because she felt awkward but it was still kind of cute. Lapis asked, “So Steven wrote songs about us.”
Opal said, “I don’t know yours.”
Lapis said, “-but you know...some of yours?”
Opal smiled and nodded, “Steven sang it to Pearl and Amethyst when he was first introduced to the concept of me and fusion.”
Lapis said, “That sounds very Steven.” Opal smiled fondly and Lapis asked, “Can I hear some of yours?” Steven probably wasn’t going to be gone much longer but Opal seemed like she liked distractions.
Before Opal responded Steven came back into the barn holding his ukulele like it was a prize. Opal and Lapis both smiled at him. Opal leaned down and Steven ran into on of her arms and Opal sat down and put Steven on her thigh. Steven smiled at Lapis and said, “Do you want to sit next to me?”
Lapis laughed slightly and asked, “Shouldn’t that be Opal’s decision?”
Opal shrugged and said, “It’s fine. You can if you want to.” Lapis deliberated for a moment before sitting herself across from Steven.
Steven asked, “What song do you guys want to hear first?”
Opal and Lapis responded with each others names at the same time and Steven giggled. He said, “I’m gonna do Opal’s first because i wrote hers first.” He looked at his ukulele and said, “I didn’t actually use this but if you give me a minute...” He spent a few moments thinking and strumming on his ukulele. Then he quietly said, “Okay...”
He started to sing Opal’s song. It was cute and Opal sang along to most of it. Steven grinned between Opal and Lapis as he sang. They both smiled at him. Two of Opal’s hands were folded in her lap and one of her free ones was tousling Steven’s hair fondly as he finished. The other free one rested by Lapis.
Lapis said, “That was good you two.”
Steven smiled and said, “Do you still want to hear yours?”
Lapis nodded and said, “Yeah.”
Steven smiled at Lapis and she mostly smiled at him while he played her her song, but she looked up at Opal at one point and Opal was looking at her. Opal looked away, at Steven, and Lapis looked back to Steven.
After Steven finished that song Lapis said, “That was very nice.”
Steven grinned and hugged Lapis. Lapis smiled and returned the hug until Steven let go. Then he crawled out of Opal’s lap and said, “I’m gonna go check on Peridot. I’ll be right back.”
Lapis and Opal replied, “Okay Steven.” Then Opal looked at Lapis and giggled. Lapis smiled at her.
Lapis realized that she was still in Opal’s lap. She joked, “You probably want me out of your lap, huh?”
Opal smiled at her and shrugged. She said, “It’s fine, Lapis.”
Lapis thought about it for a moment and decided to stay there at least for a little. She liked it and Opal giggled again. She liked that too.
