Los datos abiertos (Open Data) se han convertido en un elemento fundamental no solo para sustentar las iniciativas de gobierno abierto sino también para el mundo científico que ha encontrado en la gestión de datos la forma ideal de poder sustentar mucho del conocimiento producido y diseminado en documentos académicos. Sin embargo, si se quisiera conocer cuál es el desarrollo de estas iniciativas a nivel mundial tendríamos un problema debido a la escasez de fuentes que existen al respecto.
