Why Tumblr?
Dear GChriss, Why start a Tumblr account? It doesn't seem to fit your personality. Yours truly, GChriss
GChriss, You may recall that I'm full of surprises — this is no exception. If it makes you feel better, proper grammar and punctuation rules apply.
I've become hooked on TwitterIdenti.ca and have shied away from Tumblr mostly because I never understood what the hell was going on.1 A stripped–down version of Myspace? A fancy way to pass notes? Maybe a sort of empty space on the web filled by cats. That could be it.
The decision to actually create an account and start posting was inspired by Kontraptionist, which I stumbled upon via a semi-random Gmail thread. I'll admit a bit of jealously at the cool stuff listed there and the relative ease in which it seems to appear,2 part of what I've been longing for in microblogging. (No, New Twitter doesn't count, and I'm still holding out on the old version for as long as possible.)
As for the name technic_observations: it's a continuation of my old Penn State blog, and I'm partial to the name as, to me, it implies a sense of reverence in nuanced-and-almost-transcendental technology. I've lost editing ability on my Penn State blog, and while the text hasn't disappeared (yet) the demos are broken. :-( Expect to see a blend of some of my neat side projects interwoven with weird stuff like feelings. Oh, and I'll have to see how well Tumblr integrates with open video, which should have broader appeal.

[1] Don't worry, I'm forever clueless. [2] I jogged past there this weekend. It's surprisingly close but lacks a storefront, so yeah.
