Defense Against Magical Creatures Professor/ Supervisor of the Guard Club

As a student, Nyx Herrera was the embodiment of all things the Wampus House valued. She was as fierce as she was gifted. Her ability to tame and befriend a hippogriff landed her in the Ilvermorny history books. She even founded the Guard Club that she was later hired to head years after her graduation. Nyx also became the professor of Defense Against Magical Creatures. As a professor, Nyx is very selective. She doesn’t have time to waste on wishy-washy students who have sympathy for the big scary creatures who go bump in the night. They’re dangerous and require a firm hand. If you don’t have it, she will boot you from her class without hesitation.

But where was Nyx for those years between graduation and her employment at her alma mater? Rumors say she traveled the world learning how to tame the wildest beasts of the magical world. Seeing as she was able to become the Defense Against Magical Creatures Professor, the rumors might be true. However, the truth is harder to believe than the rumors.

The night of graduation, Nyx was in the forest surrounding the school and she could’ve sworn that there was something out there after her. She said it was after her the whole year. She had an elaborate plan to trap and disarm this creature. After almost hexing the young child of a fellow student, Nyx was sent to the infirmary for an evaluation. She was diagnosed with a Paranoid Personality Disorder. She spent a few years learning to cope and manage her personality disorder. She was finally feeling like she was normal. Even her therapist thought it was time for her to move on and that was when she took the position at the school.

Nyx’s resolve is tested daily. She hears the rumors of a beast terrorizing the barrier between the school and the no-maj and tries to tell the irrational voices that there is nothing out there. She won’t allow the disorder ruin her hard work and career but the more and more she hears the harder it is to ignore. Is she strong enough to withstand the temptation to give in to her paranoid delusions? Or will she fall victim to them again? But the bigger question would be, is the creature that Nyx’s mind is trying to fend off real? Or fake?

Transfiguration Teacher

Elle has always had a talent for transfiguration magic and for herbology but if she had to be honest, herbology was really more of a pass time and she was really more interested with flowers than the subject as a whole. She got very good grades in both, but when given the opportunity to be the apprentice of both a well known herbologist and a transfiguration teacher, she choice the latter. She had time for both but thought it would be unfair to the herbologist who made herbology his passion and life’s work. She didn’t want to waste his time or disrespect his craft with anything less than all she had, she’s always been that kind of person. Her transfiguration teacher by contrast seemed very dull, lifeless but she knew there had to be more than met the eye with the old woman and it turned out she was right.

As the years passed, she grew very frustrated by how the world around her seemed to understand so very little about the truths she knew. She noticed how quickly people seemed to disregard the notion of looking beyond first impressions, not even waiting to get to know a person before making judgements. As a teacher at Ilvermorny, she noticed this to be especially true and it started to make her very, very upset. She’s taken to “cursing” students to teach them lessons about how true beauty is within and how selfishness is never the way to happiness. She knows she could be fired if she’s caught but the thing is…her methods seem to be working. Do the means justify the ends or is the road to hell paved with good intentions? Only time will tell…

Freeloader

FC:Joe Keery  

Fred, or Freddy as he’s called, has always been a little outcasted, a little bit weird. He was born to one of the richest pureblood families in North America, his father is one of the primary financial donors to Ilvermorny, you could almost say the man own the school. Fred was never his father, he was never going to carry the family name and never would be expected to because he is a squib. He was never ashamed of this and he always understood what it meant, he just was never going to be as important as the rest of his family and he was never going to inherit it all when his folks passed. He knew he would be taken care of though, which was all that mattered to him, besides, he hated the glitz and the glamour of his family’s world, that is, if this chill dude could hate anything.

Despite not being magical, he is what he likes to call a “magic enthusiast.” He is fascinated by magic, by stories like Harry potter out in England, Newt Scamander almost a hundred years ago. As far as the big mysteries go, he’s heard it all, from the missing princess of Montsolei, to the necromancer of Romania, the werelions of Africa all the way to the mysterious legend of the shepherd’s journal. More than anything, he wants to go on one of these adventures and deep down beneath his cool, laid back, goofy exterior, he really wants a chance to be the hero.

Naomi spent her life traveling from magical city after magical city. She longed for the day when she would be able to go to one of the man magical schools she heard about. When it came time for her to attend school, Naomi and her family were faced with the sad truth that their little girl was a squib. However, she never lets her lack of magical ability get her down. She's spunky and, at times, hard-headed.

In lieu of a magical education, Naomi spent the years learning everything about trade and commerce. She has hopes of one day taking over her family’s business. She has a set up shop in Greylock's Landing where she handles most of the business affairs. She mainly deals with everyday goods in and out of the cities. Every once in awhile someone comes to her for a unique item. Sometimes it's illegal but the price tag and prestige is too high to turn down. Will she live out her dream or will she head down a dark path?

Vladmir Chernabog // 22 // Alumni // Wampus // Pureblood

Russian Mob Boss

Some people are just born a little darker than others, like they have always been staring into the abyss. Vladmir was one of those people but whether it was nature or nurture has always been debated by those who knew him. His parents taught him dark magic when he was very young, he killed his first human life when he was five and by the time he was ten he was in control of his own contingent of men in the Russian Wizard Mob. He was sent to Ilvermorney when he turned thirteen and specialized in Defense against the dark arts, in the interest of increasing the effectiveness of his dark magic and understanding of how to avoid aurors.

While at school he saw a real opportunity in expanding into Adamsville and so he set up shop. He offers businesses in Greylock’s landing and Adamsville “protection” for a price, mostly protection from his own goons. He wants to make the right connections with the right people and spread his influence but beyond the darkness…Vladmir isn’t sure what he wants and it angers him to no end…

Hit Man

Isaiah Mustafa

Heathcliff wasn’t always such a ruthless man. When he attended Ilvermorny he was quite kind, plenty of people took notice of his talents in charms and transfiguration and he eventually graduated with an aurors specialization. He never became an auror, instead, he slowly started to discover the allure of dark magic and became quite good at it. He became sceptical of the intentions of MACUSA and frustrated by their failures to control the no-majs so he became a hit man, taking jobs that suited his sensibilities. They say he’s the very best, calling him the headless horseman since he obscures his identity by making himself appear to be headless.

When he kills his targets he does it unseen by anyone, with one exception. He’s threatening an Adamsville school teacher to keep his mouth shut, knowing that killing him would be less than ideal with the picture on his phone and with the townsfolk all knowing where he went that night. It would be too easy to trace the crime back to him. In addition to this, he’s been trying to get in with all the new dark wizards and witches coming to town.

Elementary School Teacher

Ichabod was born and raised in Adamsville. Despite trying to be logical, he turned out quite superstitious. For many residents in Adamsville it is hard not to consider that maybe all the stories are true and that there are horrible things lurking in the woods. Being cowardly and nervous, he got out of town as quickly as he could, attending university in England before he inevitably had to return home and get a job as an elementary school teacher. Most of his coworkers went to school with him and many mock him for returning to town after making such a show when he left.

At a faculty Halloween party, his coworkers decided to really play into that superstition of his. They got him drunk and called him a coward, daring him to go out to the covered bridge out in the woods, on the old overgrown road. They told him to snap a picture of the headless horseman that rides there. Finally frustrated enough to do something, he left in a huff to get a picture of the inexistent creature. He told himself again and again that nothing would be out there, only to discover a shadowy man on the bridge, standing over what appeared to be a dead body. Terrified he took a picture on his phone and ran. When he returned to the party he told everyone all he saw were trees. They laughed and nothing changed between them.

Ever since that night. Ichabod’s been getting threatening messages, emails, letters all telling him he better keep his mouth shut about what he saw. He wants to, very badly but when a missing person report came out days later he found himself torn. The good, brave part of him knows that coming forward is the right thing to do but the fearful, superstitious part of him wonders if what he saw in the woods was supernatural.

Orson Bates “Oogie Boogie” // 35 // Alumni // Thunderbird // No-Maj Born

Illegal Casino Owner

Orson Bates was born and raised in Romania, not far from Transylvania. There was and remains to this day, very little magical government in Romania and dark wizards roam wild there. In such an environment, most wizards and witches go a little dark but few as dark as he did. He became the head of one of the country’s many mob families, raking in impressive wealth through loan sharking and illegal gambling, though he really has done almost any despicable thing you can think of. He is impressively talented with his use of bugs as familiars to spy on people or in some cases, poison them. He specialized at Ilvermorny in Transfiguration which he uses to turn his lairs into elaborate death traps.

With so many important people gathering in America around Ilvermorny he felt there was an opportunity there he couldn’t pass up. He took his most loyal lackeys with him and set up shop in Greylock’s landing, spreading out through New England. He runs an impressive and dangerous underground casino in Greylock’s landing and is looking for business partners to open other locations.
