After becoming a ward of JON ARRYN along with EDDARD STARK, Robert made a good friend in the pair. Robert fell in love with Eddard's sister, LYANNA STARK, though he was known by then for sleeping around. He already had a bastard daughter.
Lyanna's kidnapping and the subsequent death of Rickard and Brandon Stark led House Arryn, Stark, and Baratheon to rise against the crown. Robert's lineage afforded him the greatest claim to the throne and thus began Robert's rebellion. He has not been dissuaded from his rebellion despite the temporary retreat and still intends to marry Lyanna and kill Rhaegar.
