Happy pi day, everyone.
So I'm doing just a bit of opening prep lately. Namely on the Flohr-Zaitsev system in the Spanish. I don't particularly enjoy doing opening prep, especially in big openings, but they're a necessary evil if I want to reach a playable middlegame against experienced players.
For a long time I played 1.d4. Since the beginning, actually. If I'm being brutally honest with myself, I think I was afraid of tactical complication and an open fight. I was more attracted to positional ideas and slow, incremental play. Nowadays, though, I'm in the mood to fight - all the time, every game, either color. Hence the switch from 1.d4 to 1.e4 and against 1.e4 switching from 1...c6 to 1...c5. I'm king hunting these days.
