I just got home from Open Studio Night. And it was great. And I'm very tired. But tonight was so great and I'm really happy.
Its been a really long day. I slept alright. I let myself sleep in until around 9. I woke up and had toast. I took a shower and washed my hair. I didn’t need to be in the studio until around noon so I just let my hair air dry and watched some tv.
It was very cold today. My lips are very very chapped and its making me feel bad, but I'm trying my best to just moisturize and be nice to them. I bundled up and walked to the studio. I tried to get some stuff done before Don came at noon. I helped set stuff up, hung some posters, cleaned some tables. But then it was 1230 and Don wasn’t there? So I checked my phone and he had texted me asking where I was! Apparently I was supposed to meet him at the shop and I didn’t realize. Oops. So him and Anders drove my frame over for me and I was very thankful.
After they brought my frame over we looked at my install in the basement and it was decided that I should put up some twinkly lights. So after they left I got myself together to go back home to pick up my laptop (so I could have a slideshow for my photo project), and get some lunch. I ran into Michaela and she asked if I had some posters, which I did at home. So I headed out quickly to get back fast.
I stopped at family dollar to get the twinkly lights and some snacks before I went and got a sandwich. I got back to the studio and after I gave the posters over I went down to hang up my lights. And ended up knocking over the entire installation. Amazing. So I had to spend like 45 minutes fixing it and I was shaking before I got to eat my sandwich. So then I didn’t feel so good because I ate to fast. I laid down in my studio for a little while and read. Then after I made up a slideshow for my 52 week photos and went to help with some other stuff.
I ended up just chilling in Dana’s studio with Chelsea in Erin and gossiping. I helped them with a little bit of stuff, and walked around trying to make sure anything I could do was done. I worked in my studio for a while too just making sure it was all ready to go.
At 4 I went and helped cut lemons and other foods, getting ready for the party. It was a lot of fun actually. I tried to make sure we weren’t putting things out to quick so things wouldn’t get stale. But it was good it was just really nice.
I decided to put on a performance of my toy paintings and have them up for sale. Not one bought any but that’s okay. The very first person who came in my studio was Alex, the guy I'm hoping to be on my thesis committee. I was a bit nervous and hadn’t sorted out how to talk about the whole group. But I think it went okay. We have a longer meeting on Monday that I'm looking forward too.
Honestly I had so many people come in. I left the dog toys on barking and had things making sounds all night so people were just intrigued I think. I had a lot of little kids who I let play with the set up. and just a lot of wonderful conversations. I really had a wonderful time. Honestly it was wonderful. Ashlyn came! And hung out with me and talked about my work. I sent her off to look at everything else and get something to eat.
I got to hang out with some really awesome people. A few of my freshmen even came over! It was really great. I don’t know what our final count was but there was a whole lot of people in my space.
There was a raffle at 830 and my piece didn’t get any tickets, but I think that the raffle wasn’t super well advertised because almost half didn’t get any tickets in their buckets. After though a girl came up to my bunny and I slide over and was like “did you want it?” and she said yes but she didn’t have any money. So I said if she could find $5 she could have it. Since that’s what the raffle was. And she was able to so I made $5.
Ashlyn helped me pick up my studio and then she bounced, I stayed another hour to help clean. I got to take a bunch of extra food home including this whole melon. I go home in a week and I'm hoping I don’t have to buy anything except soda and eggs and maybe bread for the week.
I'm going to take tomorrow off and just rest. Today was really really exhausting. I hope you all have a good night. Sleep well.
