Operation Kindness Makes a Positive Impact on Animals’ Lives
A member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, Stacy Stine Cary fulfills her civic duties by volunteering time as a Sunday school teacher, Congregational Care Ministry member and Girl Scout leader. In addition, Stacy Cary is a proud supporter of animal rights and protection, committing time to advocating Operation Kindness initiatives. Based in Carrollton, Texas, Operation Kindness has protected North Texas animals since 1976. The no-kill animal shelter has provided homes to more than 75,000 animals over the course of its existence. Today, it serves over 3,000 dogs and cats annually. An estimated 300 animals await adoption in the shelter each day, and 100 take refuge in foster care until permanent homes are located. The organization operates as a 501(c)(3) and depends on public donations and retail operations to fund its mission. Additionally, Operation Kindness relies on its volunteer program to carry out daily duties. Each volunteer is required to attend an orientation session, where he or she learns about scheduling their six-hour monthly commitment, receives the official handbook, and obtains an Operation Kindness shirt. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in various parts of the organization, such as administrative work, foster care, marketing, and fundraising. For individuals interested in adopting, the organization hosts off-site adoption events at the Whole Foods in Plano on the third Saturday of each month from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Plano Petsmart on the fourth Saturday of each month, also from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Volunteer Opportunities with Operation Kindness
North Texas resident Stacy Cary donates much of her time to community activism and outreach. An experienced professional in energy, real estate investing, and project management, Stacy Stine Cary now commits herself to public policy development and to local nonprofit support and outreach. Stacy Cary actively participates in several regional nonprofit groups, among them Operation Kindness, the largest and oldest continually operating no-kill animal shelter in North Texas. To meet the needs of animals and animal owners in the Dallas area, Operation Kindness depends on the generosity of local donors and volunteers. The nonprofit shelter offers plenty of volunteer opportunities for adults and for children (6 years and older) accompanied by adults. The benefits of volunteering for Operation Kindness are numerous. Volunteers not only gain the great feeling of helping animals in need; they also receive a shelter newsletter, participate in volunteer appreciation events, and develop important animal-care knowledge. At Operation Kindness, staff members work diligently to pair volunteers with the jobs they prefer and that suit their abilities. The types of available volunteer jobs run the gamut from fundraising assistance and animal transportation to kennel maintenance and dog walking. Furthermore, Operation Kindness needs help at special events, such as school and community presentations, and on adoption counseling, to ensure that adopters find their ideal companions.
