New Google Drive API:
Because the Drive Realtime API is based on operational transformation (OT), local changes are reflected instantly, even on high-latency networks. The Drive Realtime API automatically transforms changes to the data model so that every collaborator stays in sync.
Operational transformation as an API is an idea that I've had for a long time. (It's one of my drinking buddy ideas that I rant about.)
I never got around to prototyping anything. This is pretty cutting edge stuff and keeping up with the research is a full time job. Also, I couldn't figure out a business model to actually capitalize on it.
Nice to see that Google is building it out.
