PPR Super Seasonal: Kaamil Harley
Written by PPR Division of Operations Park Manager Joshua Bell
Kaamil has been working for Philadelphia Parks & Recreation (PPR) for the past five years. He started out as a District 1 Seasonal Maintenance Attendant (SMA) in 2012, assigned to the trash truck as a helper. He spent the next three seasons on the trash truck showing hard work, ambition, punctuality, and ability to work in a team setting.
In 2015, there was a need for a caretaker at Fox Chase Recreation Center. Kaamil stepped up to the plate and filled that position. The Recreation Leader was extremely happy with Kaamil's performance at his facility, keeping both the interior and exterior of clean on a daily basis.
In 2016, the caretaker at Jardel Recreation Center was called up for military duty. Kaamil was asked to fill that role and serve as the facility’s caretaker. Showing his dedication, he stepped up once again and did a phenomenal job. When the full-time caretaker returned, Kaamil was moved to Palmer Playground where he is currently employed and is still upholding a high standard of excellence.
Kaamil has a maintenance program that he follows each day. When he arrives at his facility in the morning, he inspects inside and outside the building for any hazardous conditions. He then begins his job inside the recreation center. He cleans the restrooms, cleans the floor, restocks the restrooms with supplies, and empties the waste baskets. After completing these tasks, he takes the trash outside for pickup. He then turns his attention to the outdoor areas around the facility. Picking up litter, emptying trash cans, and checking the playground for any hazardous items are among the daily tasks that Kaamil takes care of outdoors.
Kaamil says that he enjoys working outdoors in a park setting, and he gets a great deal of satisfaction from his work. "I like to keep my place clean and safe for the kids,” said Kaamil.
