Thinking about how literate my operators are after it was brought up on Tennoblr.

Kaine is semi-literate, he struggles with reading- and writing is a massive pain for him. It's probably one of the reasons he struggled so much with school.

Callan is completely illiterate- any skill he had developed in the past faded in Duviri. It's one of his bigger insecurities.

Rufus is fully literate and fluent in Corpus, as well having a somewhat solid grasp on Tennobet/Orokin script. Doesn't enjoy writing by hand.

Soleil is fully literate in Tennobet/Orokin, and can read and write both common and ceremonial scripts. He enjoys writing and calligraphy quite a bit. His fluid and unique style of writing characters is something he prides himself on.

Did Rufus ever read Tales of Duviri? And if he did, what were his thoughts/opinions on the book? Did he use its advice during the Zariman disaster?

Rufus absolutely read Tales of Duviri during his time before the Void-Jump accident- whether or not he managed to glean its broader meaning is very much up for debate.

He tends to be a very emotional person with little control over his feelings, and whether or not he expresses them. He is a Sun, after all, so it's unsurprising that his anxieties often got the better of him after the disaster. Rufus also sits on the younger side of the spectrum when it comes to my Operators, meaning that he's significantly less developed mentally and emotionally than some of the other kids.

As for his thoughts on the book... I doubt it was his favourite, but given the short nature of each of the stories, it made for a great choice to read to his toys. The pictures were absolutely his favourite part- he'd spend hours pouring over every little painted detail in each illustration.

Up until the accident, Dominus Thrax was his favourite character. I think Rufus empathized with the king's confusion and struggle to maintain a solid grasp on his kingdom- and courtiers by extension. Afterwards though, Lodun usurped Thrax as Rufus' comfort character. Perhaps it was the courtier's drive to do what was best for Duviri that drew Rufus to him, or perhaps it was envy for his ability to feel an emotion that wasn't weak like Fear or Sorrow, or morally and situationally incorrect like Envy and Joy.
