It wasn’t unusual for Leo to find himself alone in the apartment most days, especially during the summer. Sam, ept himself occupied as often as the sun rose. Not all of this, surely, was entirely safe. Leo knew how fixated his brother was on Robin, perhaps even more so after she disappeared. Leo worried sometimes, but his brother had an eccentric way of charming himself out of any situation - even those bordering on dangerous. He, on the other hand, was not that type of gambler...Well, except for now. When there was no other choice. When he needed the money to ensure he had a chance on the field
Sam’s habits hadn’t changed over time. Leo knew he still liked to hide his extra cash in a shoe box in his closet, camouflaged and stored for a metaphorical, rainy Tennessee day. It only took a few minutes of rummaging to uncover, hidden underneath a pile of boxes. Stealthily, Leo pulled it out and counted the bills inside, mentally calculating how much he would need for the first few games of the season. Then, out of the blue, he heard the loud creak of the ancient front door opening. Leo lost focus, his breath quickening ten paces. He shoved the money into his pocket and kicked the closet door, standing up in the few merciful seconds before Sam would find him in there.
“Oh...hey,” the younger boy stammered, mouth running dry. “I was just looking for my socks - my lost socks.’
