There's definitely shit Doflamingo did as a kid that makes him look unambiguously evil - like, yknow, killing his father, and for Cora at least I think that memory overshadowed every other perception he had of Doflamingo and their shared childhood - but somehow I don't think 'responding with violent threats to literally getting tortured as a child' proves that anyone is innately evil

A couple of years ago I went through a bunch of Reddit chapter threads from when Law’s backstory was first coming out and these ones still make me laugh

#apparently before cora's face was shown people thought the image of doflamingo in the prototype chapter (??) was actually corazon #and then when law said he was doflamingo's younger brother and he killed him yadda yadda the picture shown was mingo looking evil #so that only reinforced this theory #also a very common theory was that cora would have the ope ope no mi and a lot of people thought he'd use it to make law immortal #clearing out the drafts #opposting #dressrosa

crazy to me how one piece went "our main character wants to be the pirate king (implication being that he wants the power involved in being pirate king) -> our main character wants to be the pirate king because he wants to be the most free person on the seas, so not for power reasons after all -> our main character has a second, secret reason he wants to be pirate king and he's only told an absolutely miniscule group of people this so far (he tells his crew his real dream in chapter 1060) (the audience still dont know. we still have no idea. we still have to guess by gauging the reactions of the people luffy - and roger, because luffy and roger have the same dream and that's EXTREMELY significant too - tells the dream to)"
