H I S T O R Y !

born to first generation korean immigrants as one of three children. yuri’s the youngest and was maybe babied a little (read: a lot) but instead of turning out like a little brat (side eyes at kit) they’re actual a little poppet angel

always tended towards the shier side which resulted in a few close friends but also some bullying. especially since they felt more comfortable speaking korean as a teeny tot but despite being soft, they’re resilient ok

plus they did/ do HAVE friends. most notably two best friends they’ve had since forever. they’ve been a best friend trio for life and are a large part of the reason why yuri is still a soft blossoming sunflower.

they were kind of an outcast at school for their socially anxious tendencies, a stutter they picked up from the bullying about how they spoke and then, a bit later on, for their unwillingness to conform to masculine stereotypes. the bullying made their school life kind of a nightmare.

their academics suffered hard but they were still good at english / writing and had a knack for music. they kept diaries and would never be caught dead without some kind of notebook on their person and spent most of their time hiding away in practice rooms.

home life wasn’t much better. it wasn’t a bad upbringing per say and yuri loves their siblings with everything they’ve got but their parents were traditionalists and, later, going through a messy divorce which put a wrench in their comfortably middle class existence.

cheating and fighting put a really damper on how yuri viewed love and relationships which will come into play later

as if the divorce weren’t enough, things were only made more difficult when they finally decided that their gender identity was more of a question mark than anything else around that same time, leading to some harmful associations

they already kind of blamed themselves for their parents’ disagreements. they felt like their eccentricity was causing a rift and so they went through a period immediately after the divorce was finalized where they just kept their realization a secret

coming out to their parents was the bravest thing they’d ever done and, thankfully, despite all the confusion they were more accepted than they thought they would be. their siblings were a super big part of why it all went well it but that’s why we love and support the kim fam

so were yuri’s bffs.

still, the divorce was hard. being a hopeless romantic before the whole split, yuri took a 180 and became scared of love. they saw how it could hurt. how it could break up families and be thrown away for nights of physical pleasure. they saw how it could make children doubt themselves and how it made grown adults cry. they didn’t think they’d ever fall in love.

and yet… they were already falling. it was such a slow gradual thing, falling in love with one of their best friends. they’d been there all along, through thick and thin – both friends had – but the spark of something more quickly turned into a fire once they started opening up to the idea. 

that’s not to say that it was easy. yuri denied it for a long while, rejected a few desperate suitors throughout college and used that angst and insecurity in their writing and composing. they developed an even stronger passion for the written word – mostly poetry but sometimes other forms of prose -- and were able to communicate some of those feelings through music.

C A R E E R !

yuri’s joining the lives of the rich and wealthy is actually fairly recent. they saved up money from freelance pieces to move out and bought a piano before they bought real furniture. someone recorded a video of them playing and how it echoed down the stairwell and it went viral. being famous without a face to attach to the talent ends up being a running theme in yuri’s life

somewhere while the piano vid was gaining traction, yuri started sending out manuscripts of their writing. it’s definitely what they actually wanted to do with their life -- music being more of a hobby. they weren’t... getting far but eventually their work fell into the hands of someone who contacted yuri to be a ghost writer

it wasn’t quite the ‘big break’ they were expecting but it was also quite lucrative. the individual ended up making bank on the novel and has contracted yuri for a sequel. they aren’t super sure they want to do it because it feels odd to be getting rich off of someone else’s name branding but at the same time, they were able to send money to their siblings and provide for their family so like? they don’t mind some part of me is like it’s kit doing the full on zoella ghostwriting scandal but i don’t know what kit would even write about so that’s a no

his parents started off really loosely based around the beckhams, but that kinda got away from me. his dad is still a very well known soccer player (from seoul), his mother is a famous actress who steered more into the business side of hollywood as she got older

his father only really stayed in the us for his mother, and really had no choice when leon was born. he wanted to keep leon away from his mother’s lifestyle but realized that wouldn’t happen, so instead he tried to keep leon humble throughout his childhood. it succeeded for a bit until he hit high school and had a little more freedom to learn how fun being rich could be. 

by the time he’d graduated, he’d quit soccer and fallen into more dangerous habits. his father, who’d slowly grown to detest his wife’s lifestyle, ended up leaving his mother. she sort of fell apart and he had to try to pull it together to be there for her, but that really just meant suppressing his own feelings

ummmmm so basically now he really has no one keeping him in check / humble so he’s fully acting out. seeing how his father slowly started to hate the woman he called the love of his life, leon’s given up on trying to really connect with people. 

to make it simple, he’s comparable to sebastian valmont/kwon sihyun (tempted), but a little more of a smartass. he’ll play with people just to start drama / to get a reaction. he’s discreet and calculated, which leaves him to come off as cold, but when you look closer you realize he’s just a bored rich kid looking to avoid making the same mistakes as his parents. when he forgets to act like a douche, you see more of the comical and sensitive side he desperately tries to hide

he’s super protective when he does grow to care for people, it just takes a long time. he doesn’t trust easily either, so once you break it, you usually can't earn it back

emmaline is the only child of matias and lisabeth alderidge, american millionaires who made their fortune by winning a set of high-profile cases before retiring in their fifties to devote their efforts to philanthropy.

growing up emmaline (often opting to go by emmy) had everything she could have desired - trips ‘round europe, beautiful gowns, bullshit organic meals prepared by an in-house chef and a summer home on martha’s vineyard.

when she was young she fit in wonderfully with this life, the prime example of a budding socialite. she made conversation with stock-brokers and attorneys and achieved the highest marks in school. she would not be seen without having the finest garments on and she always entertained. she wanted to be likeable to a fault.

she was diagnosed with ewing’s sarcoma when she was fifteen. clusters of tumors lined her collarbone and upper arm, requiring a multi-year ordeal of chemo, surgery and radiation.

her parents took this and ran with it…creating the ‘alderidge foundation for ewing’s sarcoma.” this was a kind gesture, one that emmy supported at first, but later grew to detest. she hated having a namesake...one public memory of her experience that would stay with her and force her to talk about the most traumatic time of her life with any wealthy friend willing to give.

the foundation operates from the generosity of donors and provides research dollars to study the particular mutation found in em’s tumor cells. this means lots! of! galas! (that emmaline doesn’t want to attend lmao)

she would much rather have frank discussions about survivorship - including talks about sex and body image and how to get drunk on a tuesday without screwing with her medication schedule. she loves mom and dad but feels as if they want to do philanthropy to show face.

now she’s living alone in la as a bit of a runaway (still funded tho lol). she’s the sweetest little bean who is still trying to figure things out. if you catch her alone you can find her pressing some flowers in the pages of her journal or attending community social justice meetings. a champagne socialist if you will.

she has 550k followers on instagram, a relatively low number for the group, but only because every once and a while she has a nervous break and deletes her account before re-making it so less people are watching her life. each time she claims it was a technical glitch. lies.

a bit of a prudish, nervous type but went through a phase where she made-out with half of la in an attempt to feel something again. maybe even your muse!

has a recurring dream where she moves to luxembourg and spends the remainder of her days alone with a bulldog, taking hikes and drinking tea. her therapist says this means her psyche wants anonymity. she thinks she is just sick of warm weather. in denial much?

when she inherits the aldridge estate she plans on shutting down her parent’s foundation and establishing her own fund where she gives large sums of money to sick kids to spend on whatever they want. just a bunch of hand-outs. nothing more. short-sited? probably. could she do more good by thinking this through? absolutely. will she ever change her mind? unlikely. 

honestly this is probably because she can’t have biological kids due to treatment and deals with this sadness by resigning herself to dying broke after giving everything she has to people she relates to. also she wants to spite her own tax bracket. y i k e s !
