I was trying to write a good post about how horrible it is that Autism Speaks is fighting to “cure” autism... but it turns out they dropped that in 2016. So I pivoted to talk about how they don’t have any autistic board members... but it turns out they gained two in 2015. And I could STILL pivot and talk about their other issues, but I kinda want to take a moment to appreciate that they ARE making an effort to listen and move towards a less-awful direction, and I think it’s important to recognize that. I’d still 110% recommend supporting ASAN (Autistic Self-Advocacy Network) instead, but progress is important and it is SO nice to see that even A$ no longer supports the notion of “curing” my neurotype ^.^

After her own interrogation, Rory had lingered, not sure what to do. She certainly wasn’t leaving without Zahra, but either her cousin was still in with CPD’s finest, or she was on the other side of the crowd. Standing there alone made her feel fidgety, like she could feel all of the suspicious eyes on her. And there was something uncomfortable about all of them being so spread out across the theater; she wanted to pull everyone she’d been with close into a huddle, like that would make everything feel less like it was spinning out of control. Her eyes finally landed on Alice, and Rory was weaving through the crowd before she’d even made a conscious decision to go to her. 

“Hey,” she greeted quietly, nudging Alice’s shoulder with her own. “You already out too?”
