The problem with Nate is he conflates being Andy being busy with work with Andy betraying her principles or changing in some way.
Like...no, she wants to work at a major publication and her proudest work is her exposing a company for misconduct. that's hard gruelling work dude. even if/when she becomes a journalist, who knows what important life events of yours she'll miss because an exceptional work situation demanded her presence. not having an abusive boss probably means she wouldn't be reaching for her phone all the time but it's not a stretch to imagine she might need to pop into office in an inconvenient time or stay late or work on the computer all night pretty frequently.
so, Nate acts as if this high fashion thing is what disdains him when his real issue seems to be an ambitious, career focused woman. Like...that's what comes into conflict with his lifestyle. He needs someone with enough time for him, who wouldn't cancel at the last minute, and he's not willing or able to work around that. Which, by the way, is FINE for a person to want in a relationship!! Workaholic corporate overachievers of any gender do not make easy partners. But the problem is Andy didn't get corrupted into this state by runway. She was always an overachiever. If that's not something Nate can deal with, then he just got into the wrong relationship. It shouldn't be 'you're not the girlfriend I knew' it should be 'I've realised I don't know what your ambitions and work style entails and I don't think it'll work out' and they can peacefully go on their separate ways.
