thanks :\ i used to feel pretty proud and self-assured about being native despite the teasing. HE was proud of it and made me feel proud of it too. he pointed out our nose. i got teased a lot for my nose. but he said i had his nose, and that it “made me look Native American”. and i learned to be proud of my nose that way.

but then one day he was like “well i looked at the records and I cant prove you’re more than 1/8th and that like hardly counts and you take after your mother anyway so my side doesnt count and you haven’t been helping the elders and doing the rituals, like me, so. nvm that you don’t have access to that community and now feel literally half of what you were”

i can’t??? just travel to the reservation and I have intense social anxiety, let alone trying to participate in a culture I’m supposed to KNOW but I dont and I feel like the consequences are really high for messing it up?
