There's  a  certain  sensation  he  feels  when  being  watched…  not  in  the  normal  ways  of  shifting  paranoias  and  uncertainty  that  he  is  ever  truly  alone,  but  in  the  way  that  eyes  are  burning  holes  into  the  back  of  his  head,  perhaps  gauging  his  character,  or  determining  his  combat  capability.  He's  used  to  stares  like  that,  of  course,  as  he's  been  getting  them  since  he  can  remember.  Raised  as  an  outcast,  grown  into  a  SOLDIER…  It's  not  as  though  he  really  blends  in.

Still,  that  agitation  returns  –  one  that  echoes  the  moments  in  his  adolescence,  when  the  children  whispered  about  him,  or  had  the  audacity  enough  to  talk  freely,  loudly,  as  if  he  could  not  hear  them.  Arms  fold,  vexedly,  over  his  chest,  and  he  is  no  longer  a  silent  child,  but  a  person  who  holds  worth  in  the  form  of  his  strength  and  protectivity.

A fun shared daydream canon soup/alternate continuity AU that @guesso13 and I have involves Megatron, Ariel/Elita-1, and Orion Pax all as close friends and/or partners, all working together as proto-Decepticons; between the three of them they actually have enough of a brain cell to communicate and compromise before their burgeoning revolution is brought before the High Council, and they strategize a takeover and dismantling of the government from the inside out. Elita, commanding and responsible, steps forward to become Prime; she names Megatron as Lord High Protector, citing his prowess in the arena and as a rhetorician as credentials; Orion soon thereafter is appointed to the position of a humble secretary or similar, and weaponizes both his archivist skills and a false air of naivety to gain information.

When it comes down to it, we're honestly just using a not-really-that-serious fantasy politics backdrop to set up very silly and self-indulgent romcom nonsense for the lols. The three of them are dangerously competent, and they accomplish their goals very well, and also they're complete dorks who curl up in berth together at night and hoot and holler about how easily they fooled the high-society mechs in their last meeting and exploit the luxuries of the Primal Palace to marathon holo-B-movies because it's what they deserve.

There's a secondary potential romantic subplot for each of them as well, whether or not they're actually involved that way with each other. Senator Shockwave catches on to Orion's deception, but much to his surprise, the scholarly Senator is an underground anti-Functionist himself, and invites Orion to teach at his secret academy for Outliers. Then Megatron finds himself embarrassingly infatuated with the captain of the Primal Vanguard, Ultra Magnus. He brings up to Elita and Orion the idea of seducing him into letting him in on their true plans, emphasizing the potential logical and strategic benefits, and immediately they're just like "dude it's okay you can say you have a crush on him, we love this for you". Much later, one of the societal changes that is brought along is restored contact with the old Cybertronian colonies, and Elita's diplomatic relations with Override, the leader of Velocitron, might blossom into something more...
