HE’S SCARED OF SNAKES I’M SCREAMING
idk where to talk about this at all; it's def not my intention to start a discourse. but sometimes i think about the 'anakin eats bugs' inside joke and i find it... not funny? as in, i don't take offense, more like i just find it completely not laugh-inducing.
i mean, within context, the scene clearly frames it as comic relief, yes. you’re meant to think it’s disgusting, cause oh, he eats the bugs and worms alive, and he’s exaggerating it and everything. but out of context... what's so funny about eating insects?
it's kinda not, both from an in-universe and a meta perspective.
in-universe, anakin was raised a slave. on a desert. probably fucking half starved all the time. probably learned to make do with whatever is the closest thing to nutrition that he could scavenge. it’s not far off that he’s probably used that kinda ingredient for dishes before. it’s not even far off that some type of insect might be a traditional ingredient, either. (hell, i grew up around a dish made of pupa.) what do you know about tatooine cuisine and why are you so ready to look down on it?
from a meta pov, looking down on insects as a source of nutrition is /incredibly/ western-centric. it reminds me of all the 'you eat bats' jokes. grilled crickets/grasshoppers/spiders are a street snack in thailand, and laos too i think. the implication, when you look down on people who consume insects, is that it's not 'correct' food. it's unhygienic? what do you know about other cultures' culinary, though?
maybe im just touchy and reading too much into a kids show and a cute little running gag. or maybe there are things to be criticized about humor in shows made by white people in 2003. idek man, i just gotta let this out. this joke is so tired to me.
Lightwood boys running around killing demons with their bows is my aesthetic.
actually i just realized these photos kind of go together albeit unintentionally but maybe i’ll make a third to just finish it off who knows
don’t rb pls tank u
interesting idea; canonically, the reason star trek species all have a humanoid form is that they all descend from one singular spacefaring species. what if, even in a universe where the aliens actually look like aliens, they're still reasonably genetically compatible (since, y'know, spock and all the other half-human kids still need to exist) because of this?
it's the same kind of excuse but this time we get to have fun with designs. any of you talking about ‘but physical compatibility’ it’s called fiction and it is entirely because I WANT TO HAVE FUN.
