i guess to better articulate the concept in my brain: "slugcat ascension is a good ending" and "ancient society in its final cycles was a theocratic shitshow collapsing and eating itself alive" are not incompatible concepts to me, nor does the latter feel particularly at odds with the world that canon presents us with?
