Yes! Tell us about your OCs! *chinhands*
Oh omg uh where do I start. Uh. Ok!
So I guess my audience is currently mostly inclined towards my tennis fic, where we have Those Guys In Rocks That Give Powers as featured in Superhero AU (check the start a riot tag 👍). Normally I call them the Grounds Six, a holdover from when I first created them, but it doesn’t make sense in the context of the SAR universe so I need to come up with a different name. Anyways!!! I’ve had them for ages but they’ve breached containment and I like to reference them in almost everything I make because it always turns out that I need an extra character who just so happens to fit in the narrative hole better than any canon characters. Either that or I make them the gods in aus where I need them. What can I say I make things for myself!!!!
I also have a tendency to recycle themes and symbols, and I created them around my favorite themes and symbols, so that helps their wide applicability also.
Anyways I should probably give a brief overview huh
HYSMINE ORAMATA
- I admit a bit hypercompetent but have you considered that that is her reward for being My Favorite Punching Bag. She’s powerful because it drives her insane better <3
- Her “realm” is like. The mind/spirit/psyche. If she’s in a universe with magic, her powerset varies but it’s typically illusions, astral projection, and being able to manipulate and read people via their brain activity basically. In non power universes she’s a neuroscientist, or sometimes psychologist/sociologist/cultural anthropologist. She always experiences some kind of mental collapse, UNLESS she is Normal. Then she’s a geologist, both because I love projecting and she’s literally staying grounded and not lost in her own/other people’s heads. I’m funny like that.
- Because of her relationship with mentality, she does everything she can to control her body. Typically not very outwardly emotive, even though she’s a firestorm inside. She does have a bit of a showy streak, though, because she knows she’s good. A very good performer, which typically manifests itself in dance. Massive extreme self-control and self discipline to the point where you worry about her.
TENRAI
- They’ve always got the least stable backstory. Most of the time, they’re the one finding their place within the group, because they’re the one in constant pursuit of Home.
- Realm is body. Physical form, cells and muscle and roots. Typically has some flavor of shapeshifting ability when she has powers, is some flavor of ecologist/vet/doctor when she doesn’t. Is the only one consistently able to pick up Hysmine’s pieces. Body and mind are soulmates, basically. And in gay love.
- They have a resilience that not many others have. Not really a true leader, but certainly the one holding the group together. Incredibly patient, willing to put in the work when natural talent falls short. A fantastic teacher.
ACACIA
- It’s her!! When I first designed her I thought Fox for no real reason which is why I gave her to Jannik in superhero au. So that’s her motif, a little bit.
- Realm is energy! When she has powers, it’s in line with what we see in SAR. Energy absorption, control, sometimes production. Likes lightning whips. When she doesn’t, she’s. It really depends, but she’s typically something that takes advantage of both her personability and nerdiness. Certainly the most adaptable in that regard
- Normally bubbly and peppy, but very temperamental. Either trans or genderfluid since energy loves changing forms, baby! Definitely the most outgoing of the six, in conceits where they don’t all know each other to begin with is the one who brings everybody together.
EVANGELINA
(is there no yellow color. Her typical color association is yellow. Also she like only ever goes by Eva)
- If the name didn't already imply it, she's the one closest to godliness. If I need a god character, it's usually her grandmother. She tries really hard to live up to the example, often falls short.
- Her realm varies a bit by magic system, but it's typically either magic itself, or as we will see soon in SAR, kinda like reality? Like spacetime? Her powerset also varies a bunch by universe, but typically falls into space and time manipulation. When I created her, she had a form of invulnerability. In non-magic aus, she's usually a lawyer or running philanthropy for her family. She likes to fund her friend's projects and be kickass on the side.
- She and Hysmine are practically sisters. One of them is typically the leader of the group, when one is necessary. A bit hotheaded and copes poorly with failure in her youth, cools off and chills out, and then Hysmine leaves and she walks it back a decade since it fucks her up so bad. Wears sunglasses inside and pulls it off. Doesn't take bullshit.
TAKARA
- Gruff, buff, sounds like she's from NYC and is, if it exists. Sometimes even if it doesn't. Self-assured and proud of herself, her family, and her friends.
- Her realm is physical matter. Solid, liquid, gas, plasma. Once a body dies, she and Tenrai share custody. In magic universes, has all the basic kineses. Originally she was able to capture powers in gemstones. In non-magic universes, is typically a craftsman, most commonly with prowess in blacksmithing and jewelry making.
- Swears like a sailor. Pretends like she's ok until she does something That Is Definitely Not What A Sane Person Would Do, collapses, and then pretends it never happened (I wrote a test script once where she develops an automaton modelled after Hysmine while she's MIA). Actually really friendly, and really loves talking about and teaching what she does. Definitely the most reliable of all of them. She'd make you a table for your birthday.
GRIFFIN
- Has a cool older sister and is the token guy friend. Joined at the hip to Takara (typically they're kinda in a QPR). He is the one standing behind Takara while she tells the person at the counter that he asked for no pickles.
- His realm was hardest to pin down as a concept but I landed on entropy, which I reverse engineered from his typical tendency to like to make shit and penchant for technology. Everything that becomes more organized has to increase the total amount of randomness in the universe, after all. In his original form, he was able to break down and understand the construction/layout of things by touch, but now it's more able to make things from thin air But With Consequences. Or just vaporize shit. Again, two sides of the same coin. A pretty standard engineering guy in non magic universes, sometimes a materials scientist.
- A bit absentminded professor, a bit anxious. He and Takara can read each other's minds but also are a victim of "two smartest people you know become dumbasses when around each other" disease. Cracks easily and quickly, but pulls himself back together quickly, too (was the one who built the initial automaton model, then when it wasn't working realized how insane he was being and abandoned it). A good guy to sit in silence with.
Obviously there are More but these are the ones I want people to care about the most and also the ones that show up the most. Hopefully this was an alright primer!! I've never written out an introduction to them before like this so it was a good exercise for me lol. If you'd like to talk about any of them further, I will pretend I'm not vibrating with excitement. But, if nothing else, hopefully this gives you a better sense of who The Guys In Rocks With The Powers are in SAR lol <3
