President Trump said that he will impose an 100% tariff on 'any and all' films produced in a 'foreign land.'
Jack Dunn and Brent Lang at Variety:
Donald Trump took to Truth Social Sunday to announce he is “authorizing” the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to impose a 100% tariff on “any and all” movies produced in “foreign lands.” In a move that sent shockwaves through Hollywood, Trump deemed foreign productions a “national security threat” to the American movie industry, adding that they not only draw filmmakers out to other markets but also bring “messaging and propaganda” into the United States. “The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death,” Trump wrote. “Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!” [...] As Trump’s social media comment suggests, many Hollywood productions have moved to Canada and overseas to countries including the U.K., Australia, New Zealand and Hungary because they offer compelling financial incentives that help lower budgets. But movies also shoot internationally because they want to film in exotic locations, something that applies to globe-trotting franchises such as James Bond and “Fast and Furious.” The tariffs are being announced a week before Hollywood decamps for the Cannes Film Festival, where many U.S. productions are looking to sell foreign distribution rights and where film packages involving top talent are hoping to secure studio backing. Studio executives will convene in the Riviera facing an avalanche of questions from their foreign colleagues, who may be more reticent to do business. It was not immediately known whether Trump’s statement could also apply to films produced by other countries and shown in the U.S.
The Orange Foolius’s plan to implement 100% tariffs on films produced outside of the US is grossly insane, and many films use non-US locations to film due to cost and the promise for exotic locations.

Happy Easter! Here's a bonus meme.
Yesterday, there were Tax Marches across the country, calling upon Sultan Spray-Tan to release his tax returns. This photo is from St. Augustine, Florida.
Don the Con promised to release them after he was elected. Some Republicans, such as my representative Ron DeSantis, asked him a year or so ago to produce the returns. but seem to have forgotten about it now.

d. j. trump received five draft deferments as a young man. Four were because he was in college. The fifth and final deferment, in fall of 1968, was for medical reasons.
These are the only facts that are known for certain. Mr. T. claims that the problem was "heel spurs", but no one has been able to document this claim. In a 2015 press conference, he couldn't recall which heel was affected, and his campaign released a statement saying that is was both heels.
This article from “the failing New York Times" has more details: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/02/us/politics/donald-trump-draft-record.html?_r=0 .
Say what you will about Trump but he would NEVER send a call from Zohran Mamdani to voicemail.
Trump Floats Plan for Gaza: ‘Clean Out the Whole Thing’
President Donald Trump suggested hundreds of thousands of Palestinians should leave Gaza in order to “just clean out” the coastal enclave, stating they could be displaced to neighboring Egypt and Jordan “temporarily” or for the “long term.” Aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump told reporters he has encouraged Jordan’s Abdullah II, a US ally, to “take on more” Palestinian refugees. Trump likened Gaza, ravaged by 15 months of war, to “a demolition site,” adding, “I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing in a different location where I think they could maybe live in peace for a change.” Trump’s remarks could be seen as breaking with the US’ long-held support for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine. In an apparent rebuff of Trump, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Sunday that his country’s “rejection of displacement is fixed and unchangeable” and called a two-state solution “the way to achieve peace.” Trump also said he ordered the resumption of shipments of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, which the Biden administration paused over concerns about civilian deaths. Israel’s bombing and offensive in Gaza, which commenced after the October 7 attacks by Hamas, displaced nearly the entire 2.3 million people who live there, killing over 46,000, more than half of them women, children or the elderly. The first stage of a ceasefire agreement came into effect on January 19, with both parties now in negotiations for a more permanent truce.
DC forecast, January 20, 2025
This will most likely be the temperature at 3 PM. Remember, the inauguration ceremony starts at noon. Wind chill is going to be brutal.
