I don't understand how people can just say that you can adopt out. Not only is the path of pregnancy still outrageous from medical bills to losing time in your classes/jobs; but, its also very mentally and physically taxing. How can anyone expect someone to give up their bodies youth, their mental/physical health, and possibly give up life-dependent medication? All to carry something that doesn't even have a fully developed brain or nerves.
I think this is a result of gross ignorance of a variety of situations and having more empathy for the fetus than the pregnant person.
Many people don’t realize how privileged or lucky they are. People don’t realize their stable relationships and strong family ties aren’t universal for everyone. Many people think they’re poor, when others have to struggle with less while working more. Also, being neurotypical or able-bodied makes it easy to forget that others struggle with chronic illnesses, mentally, emotionally, and physically. There’s also the issue of internalized misogyny that thrusts the fetus above the pregnant person in consideration and worth.
Or they don’t know how awful it is to be forced through pregnancy, against your will, when you don’t want to carry to term.
You know for the animal thing, you don't necessarily need to say that they aren't completely sentient or are completely sentient. I believe all animals are completely sentient, but I still eat meat, and use their other means of production (i.e. pretty much everything on store shelves.) I don't mind to because all animals including humans need to survive. Sure you can eat other things for protein but if your poor thats costly. Survival and murder are very different things.
I think all animals are sentient, too, but I think there’s a large variation of sentience among animals. (Like there’s a difference between sea cucumbers compared to ravens. Then again, I may be ignorant about the complexity of sea cucumbers?)
I feel the discussion of sentience in animals differs from sentience in humans.
Personally, I understand where vegetarians and vegans are coming from and I try to phrase myself so I don’t exclude them from the conversation. But I also agree with you that, for some, eating meat is for survival.
