yeah basically he Is the Egg-Dragoon, or just Auto-Dragoon now. Similar to the idea I had with Bomber Barabara, Eggman Mechs in Hangin Out have personalities, but are essentially always on a leash with a pilot involved.
Orbot was made as a heavily restricted on-board AI for the mech you see Eggman using in the opening to Sonic Unleashed, which I headcanon as having been upgraded to the Egg Dragoon later on.
Orbot later streamlined the design, and got it to something much less clunky and over-designed. This was both for his own aesthetic tastes, and also so I dont have to Die drawing the Dragoon with all of those goddamn details and headlights like seriously why does it have so many headlights it’s Obnoxious!! you dont NEED all those!! wtf
anyway. he does like the intimidation-factor, so made sure to keep the spikes, and design the new addition of the head as something.. adequate. The wings are optional. Kind of nonsensical to have them out at all times given the energy needed to keep so much metal in the air. Still split on giving it the tail it has in Generations, though
In any case, he totally swears he doesn’t just want to be Big, and that the manhours spent building this thing was “to make an excellent tool for construction and demolition”. Which it is, but. yknow.
