It finally arrived after an ENORMOUS wait. It did come last week and i was waiting for day where I didn't look like death to pose with it. Since that is an impossibility I decided to pose it with some skulls instead! Can't wait to reread and meet the girls all over again 😊💗 @monster-bait congratulations again on publishing! I so can't wait for Parties to drop 👀
OTOK THE ORC a train ride together leads to a shared understanding of the meaning of life. wc729
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ m!orc x f!reader. s\fw, third person. slice of life; established relationship; soft touches; one slightly blasphemous joke; confessions
really, really happy to be sharing my first fic of 2022. hopefully you enjoy it ( ◡‿◡ ♡)
“Is this all there is to life?”
Otok looks over at Yn, watching as she draws a heart in the window’s condensation. Outside, trees blur into each other, hiding the life of the forest from the prying eyes of train passengers, and he remains silent in the wake of her question. It’s depressing, afterall; he has no idea how he’s supposed to answer it beyond: gods- I hope not.
Not that there was anything particularly wrong with their shared life. In all truth, he very much enjoyed every moment with her. He only prayed that it would get better; that he could keep her as satisfied as his father kept his mother. But, his Human friends had told him it was too soon to say such things (though he couldn’t imagine that nearly a year’s time together could be too soon for much of anything- he’d be married to an Orc female by now, if he still lived with his colony; they’ve of thought him stupid to let it drag on like this).
Thankfully, the conductor stops him from spilling his guts with an announcement, and a moment or two later leads to a gentle rapping at their cabin door.
“Anything from the trolley?” The attendant asks, her wrinkled face peeking in when Otok stands and slides the door open.
He glances back to see his partner staring blankly at the cart, but she says nothing, so he looks back at the woman- a half-breed, though he isn’t quite sure what she was- and orders a few of Yn’s favorite snacks in an effort to cheer her up without spoiling her appetite for dinner.
“Maybe,” he says once they’re alone again. He kicks a foot back up onto the bench across from them as he opens one of the snacks for her. “Sorry.”
She sighs, meeting his gaze and smiling when he offers her the cookie. “Thank you, O,” she says softly, holding it in both hands as though it weighs heavy in them. “You always take such good care of me.”
“I should hope so,” he frowns. “I’m your boyfriend.”
Yn laughs and he feels relieved. “It’s more than that,” she admits as she offers him a bite -he only takes it because he knows she likes feeding him, and the smile that stays on her lips adds to his relief. “And I wasn’t asking in a bad way. It was…contented.”
“Is that so?”
“O’course. If all I get out of this life is time with you, I’m doing better than most people.”
“Pray tell, yn.”
“Because I love you. Even when shit sucks, I know it’ll be fine.”
He blinks a few times, swallowing as he looks away from her for a moment. “Because of me?”
“Duh,” she says, mouth full. “I’m about to visit an all orc colony. Little human me.”
He chuckles. “I told you, you didn’t have to agree. My parents could have come to Raj.”
“But it’s ok, right?”
He hums, a soft smile baring his teeth as he watches her finish off the cookie and reach for her water bottle.
“Not a rhetorical question, O.”
“There are half orcs, love. Their parents, too. You needn’t worry,” he tells her as he opens a second snack and offers it to her.
“I’m not worried.”
“You needn’t be afraid, then.”
“I’m certainly not afraid” -he chuckles at her affronted tone, his hand coming up to brush his knuckle across her cheek fondly- “and, for the record, that’s worse than worried.”
“Noted.”
“Anyway…I just told you. I can do anything. All things.”
“All things,” he agrees, turning slightly in her direction as he gets more comfortable.
She begins to giggle before holding up her finger in a self-important way. “I can do all things through Otok, who strengthens me.”
The orc begins to laugh, the rich sound warming his human from the inside out. She turns to smile at him when he doesn't stop, watching him with eyes full of admiration, and when he catches sight of her he wonders if this is what she meant because he can only agree: If this is all there is, he certainly has far more than anyone else.
“Don’t tell my mother I said that,” she says once he’s quiet.
“Don’t worry,” he laughs one last time as he leans over to nuzzle into her throat. “I won’t~”
