Via @kingoftheocean A resort in Bali, known as "Wake Bali Adventure", is notorious for its swim with dolphins programme. Wake Bali Dolphins charges adults $147 and children $136 for 45 minutes swimming with the dolphins, or $545 for two adults and two children. Alternatively, tourists can pay a 'watching rate' of $119. According to expat animal advocate Natasha Elisa, the dolphins are further daily performing for tourists every 45 minutes. Since 2014, the facility keeps four illegally captured dolphins in a roughly 10m by 20m tank. The incredibly small pool contains a very high chlorine level causing long-lasting harm in the dolphins' cloudy eyes such as blindness. Zoologist Stephen Brend said the chlorine would be burning their eyes as well as their skin. The dolphins are furthermore suffering having their teeth filed down to blunt pegs. Unfortunately, Indonesia has approximately 72 dolphins living and performing in pools, some of those even in travelling circuses. I'm about to go to bed and watch a TV show but I can't help myself. __ rp @shut.down.captivity Type D orcas Type D are known as subantarctic orcas. They have been sighted all around the subantarctic. It was first identified in photographs of a 1955 mass stranding in New Zealand. Type-D orcas are set apart from their Type-A, B and C peers by their notably small white eye patch, bulbous head and shorter-than-normal dorsal fin. Other types of orca have much larger white eye patches and streamlined bodies. Very little is known of Type D’s diet, except that it has been photographed around longline vessels fishing for Chilean seabass. #shamu #thanksbutnotanks #emptythetanks #dontbuyaticket #seaworldcares #Blackfish #killerwhales #supportseaworld #standwithseaworld #marinepark #orcashow #animalabuse #mammal #animal #captivity #captive #tank #orcas #orca #dolphins #dolphinshow #shamustadium #seaworldsandiego #seaworldorlando #seaworldtexas #marineland #vancouveraquarium
Repost @shut.down.captivity Type C orcas The smallest ecotype is the type C orca, also known as Ross Sea orca, - males reach about 20 feet (6m) long. Ross Sea killer whales are typically seen off Eastern Antarctica in thin pack ice. Like other Antarctic orcas, they are grey and white and have a diatom coating that gives them a yellowish hue. The cape of Ross Sea orcas is darker than the rest of their body, and they have a very distinctive and dramatically slanted eye patch. The Type-C killer whale is thought to have a specialised fish diet, however the importance of Antarctic toothfish as a prey of these killer whales is unknown. There has been circumstantial evidence that suggests toothfish are an important prey for Type-C killer whales in the Ross Sea as the killer whales near McMurdo Sound have been commonly observed carrying toothfish in their mouths. However, scientists do not know the extent that toothfish forage or how deep Type-C killer whales can dive, though, in earlier studies it was estimated they dive to 200-400 m with a maximum of around 700m. #shamu #thanksbutnotanks #emptythetanks #dontbuyaticket #seaworldcares #Blackfish #killerwhales #supportseaworld #standwithseaworld #marinepark #orcashow #animalabuse #mammal #animal #captivity #wildanimal #whalewatching #orcas #orca #dolphins #dolphinshow #shamustadium #seaworldsandiego #seaworldorlando #seaworldtexas #marineland #vancouveraquarium
@shut.down.captivity KOHANA White And Noble Follow @wildlifeonearth for more amazing nature wildlife and cute animals photos&videos @wildlifeonearth Photography by Barry Bland #CuteAnimalShow Happy (?) birthday! Gender: Female Age at Present:\t 14 Date of Birth:\tMay 3, 2002 Place of Birth:\tSea World San Diego Parentes: Mother Takara, Father Tilikum Lenghts: \t14.4ft (2007) Weights: 5,500 lb (2013) Offspring: 2010 Adn, 2012 Victoria* Breed: 100% Icelandic Current Residence\tLoro Parque Kohana is a 13 year old female orca who was born at SeaWorld San Diego on May 3, 2002. Kohana was the 2nd orca calf to be born as a result of artificial insemination. While she was born at SeaWorld San Diego, her father lived at SeaWorld Orlando. At first she appeared very shy, but later she showed the same interactiveness as her mother. The two became inseparable and were moved together in 2004, however two years later they were separated when four-year old Kohana was moved to Loro Parque in 2006. She is the oldest female at the park and often shows her dominance over the other orcas. Kohana is a very quick learner and knows more behaviours than any other orca at her age. She used to do waterworks until 2009 when they were stopped. At the very young age of 8, she gave birth to her first calf, Adn. Sadly, she showed no interest in her calf and he has been raised by the trainers; when the two were re-introduced, they got along well. In August 2012, she gave birth to her second calf, a daughter named Victoria* and yet again, Kohana rejected her. Vicky* was doing well but took a turn for the worse and died in June 2013. Kohana means "Little Flower" in Japanese and "Swift" in Sioux/Native American. So glad to hear that Seaworld finally bans the orca shows. I hope they ban orcas in captivity as well.
