Oh memories, where’d you go?
He wasn’t sure what’d brought him here. He’d been in and out of consciousness so much lately he couldn’t even remember where ‘here’ even was. But, for whatever reason, when he felt stable enough to walk and his head finally stopped spinning, the first thing he wanted to do was get out of the white-walled prison that was Castle Oblivion. He made sure to tie his hair up into a less attention-grabbing bun and leave his coat back in his room. Today he was going out for himself, for his recovery, not for the organization.
When he opened a portal without thinking-the first portal he could remember opening in months and months-this is where it led him. The town didn’t seem like anything special. There was a row of cookie cutter houses down a bustling street, some small shops, and what appeared to be an ice cream parlor right ahead of him. Sure, he couldn’t remember much, but he smirked upon seeing that. Even near death, his muscle memory lured him to ice cream.
Before even bothering to scope out his other options, he stepped into the small, cutely decorated ice cream shop and stepped up to the counter. The place had a couple of other patrons, some girlfriends giggling over their cones and some guys wrapping up what he assumed to be minor skateboarding injuries. What a bunch of babies. He was happy to be here on his own. Happy to people watch. He needed a day like this. One where he could make new, painless memories.
Or so he hoped.
