✖️FINDING ZONE 1 ✖️People who know me know that I’m a podcast nerd. I inhale them. My nail lady asked me recently, “so what do you listen to when you’re here?” “Podcasts,” I answered with a smile. I listen to them in my Jeep, while I’m at 5am with my dog feeding my animals, and while I’m getting a massage. 🔘 Over the last few months I’ve been listening to the #ordinarymarathoner #podcast. The host’s wife wrote a chapter in my book 📚 “Onward & Upward: Guide for Getting Through New York Divorce or Family Law Issues”. 🔹 To be honest, some episodes have been better than others but the most recent podcast really resonated with me... He just completed the Lake Placid Ironman. When he is in Zone 1, he is on point in every aspect of his life. Then after hitting a big goal, he drifts into Zone 2... where his diet isn’t on point, he isn’t as motivated in his workouts, drinking more, etc. 🔻I can sooo relate. I know that in this game of life you have to find this thing called balance but why is it when some things get off course everything else seems to veer in the wrong direction. It’s probably why I love more extreme rule-driven diets like @whole30 —makes me feel more in control with my life. 🔹 I have a lot of memories of the times I tried to #quitsmoking. One time I was commiserating with a classmate at @pacelawschool who was also trying to quit. “I feel so much more in control of my life,” she’d say. It’s amazing how those small changes in your life can make such a big difference. 🔺 Anyway, my life has felt off balance for a while.. when I’m not on #whole30 I like to drink a glass of wine or two 🍷at night .. and well.. I just don’t feel like hitting the treadmill or #biketrainer like I should... and then other things inevitably feel off balance, like the rest of my diet, 😴and 💼. 🔹 Once you’re outta Zone 1, it’s hard to creep back in. New Year’s Resolutions are great and all but the most powerful changes in my life happened on ordinary days when I just decided to find Zone 1 again...
