Hey I've got a friend who's trying to figure out their deities. She has some names but I couldn't make anything of it. The names are "Lybria, Zuverdus, Yhirza" any thoughts? Also she said she keeps finding pieces of stuff like rocks, necklaces, feathers.
My short answer is I haven’t the foggiest idea.
My long answer will hopefully be more useful:
Judging by how this ask was worded, your friend seems to believe that people’s gods are predestined. If she’s operating off of this notion then that’s probably why she’s struggling.
No matter how it begins, deity relationships are always built. Either the god or the human can start it and neither way guarantees a particular outcome. It also requires the interest and consent of both parties involved, no matter what.
So before anything else, your friend should determine IF a deity is reaching out. She can do this using methods of discernment like asking for signs, dreams, and using divination techniques. Deities who want your attention are eager to prove themselves, in my experience, so your friend should seek out multiple confirmations from different methods. Consistency is key.
If it turns out a deity is not reaching out, that’s okay too! Your friend still has the option of researching different deities from open practices and reaching out to the ones that interest her. Again, all she needs to do is exercise good discernment and she’ll find the right deities.
Let me stress that no random smart-sounding polytheist on the internet should ever be a source of discernment. I appreciate your confidence in my interpretation skills, but discernment is the kind of thing beginner polytheists have to learn and do for themselves. All I can do is give advice on how to do it.
